Interesting that Harden speaks so highly of the "players we are gong to get." He also makes it sound like it is a given and a matter of when
They are indeed the 3rd winningest team after SAS and DAL. http://www.basketball-reference.com...c3val=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=wins
This caught my eye too. I wonder which players he is referring to, if indeed he's already got some idea.
Most teams rose up and fell down real fast. The Lakers, the Celtics, the Heat, the Cavs, the Bulls. The Rockets have stayed fairly consistent hovering around the mid-40 to low-50 range. In other words, we have always been somewhat above average but never been elite like some of those teams listed above. Heck, even this past disastrous season we witnessed, the team was a 50% team.
Yeah...but this way, Les gets to brag about having one of the top 3 regular season records over the past 10 years! ...despite the fact that we only have one second round appearance and one WCF appearance in that span. Plus a large handful of either first round exits or #14 draft picks! Look at this. The top section is pretty much the span that Les wanted to brag about. That is pretty embarrassing. http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/teams/Houston-Rockets/10/Playoff-History
The only reason last season could be considered "disastrous" is because we got a small taste of winning in our mouths from the season before and we were expecting more. Otherwise, a .500 season and a first round playoff exit would be pretty normal for what we have gotten during Les' tenure.
It really is embarrassing. I was just looking at this in the reaction thread. I was kind and gave an 11 year window (2006-2016), which would have put Dallas and Suns in the multiple trips to the Conference Finals category, and it would have left Houston with Memphis, Utah, and Denver appearing once. technically, Daryl is going out of his way to call out the three or four teams that only made one single trip to the West Finals in the last decade. lol, he is being accurate. what a joke!
Morey is a nut job. All these sudden head jerks when Les talks was flatout childish and disrespectful. Proves my suspicions correct.
Some observations: *This is 100% Leslie Alexander hire, just like it was Leslie Alexander who wanted Jeremy Lin over Dragic or Lowry, Alexander always wanted the PHX 7 secs or less offense way back before over the Spurs more disciplined system *It is pretty clear Morey wanted someone more defensive and analytics oriented *There doesn't seem to be a lot of mutual respect between Morey and MDA at the moment, just look at 3:26 Morey is saying BS motherhood statements people at my MBA school make up all the time and MDA isn't even looking at him *A couple of years from now this can mean the end of the Morey era in Houston esp. when this doesn't work out (much to CHeke's celebration) *On the bright side, MDA is clearly 10x better than Mchale or Bickerstaff JR, he has his own philosophy which he has been honing all this time and he doesn't take **** from players, they execute his game plan or they're sitting *MDA clearly knows what people think of him, and he knows everyone's questioning his D. It might not be so bad having him on board because he has a bang up job coaching staff around starting with Bzedelik who IMHO is good enough to be a HC himself already. I'm cautiously optimistic about this hire, at the very least he's an upgrade over Mchale who didn't know anything about coaching and Bickerstaff who got a the gig too early and was in way over his head. We reached WC Finals with Mchale, we can only go up with MDA.
Disagree with bolded, agree with underlined. Not sure about 100%, but yeah, 90% definitely. Morey is getting someone who loves analytics and agrees with his philosophy on offense so he's actually getting the perfect candidate on that side of things. Mutual respect is therefore something I disagree with, Morey just doesn't want to be there. I'm sure they have a ton of respect for each other. Yup, the end of the Morey era if this fails is definitely in sight. Not sure to crown D'Antoni just yet and we will never know once the roster overhaul is complete how it would've worked out under McHale or J.B. Especially because they didn't have a Bzdelik who I agree could be HC and I would've loved if we gave him a shot and have D'Antoni as the offensive assistant (pun intended).
