Ime Udoka who was with the spurs for 7 years and Philly's former top assistant went with MDA to the Nets. he's the defensive coach. pretty solid get for Brooklyn, especially being groomed from that Pop tree
Nah Dantoni is a gimmick and everyone knows it. Cp3 came close to making him a legendary coach by playing real basketball in his system but he got hurt.
Great for him best of luck...Exactly where he belongs it’s funny how some people actually believe the Rockets wanted Mike back lmao
That's what SAS keeps saying but per everyone on the Rockets, from Morey to Tilman to Harden to all the players - they all expected MDA to return. The fact that they were caught with their pants down and were unprepared for a coaching search only confirms this. And as shitty as it may be to coach Kyrie, coaching for POS owner was worse.
Rudy was an assistant when he was promoted to HC and soon was out of coaching completely shortly after leaving the Rockets. Does that invalidate Rudy's production and legacy? Of course not.
6'10 Amare is now considered short? What about 6'9 David Lee? 7'0 Tyson Chandler? The Knicks version.
Best wishes for MDA and Nash. They really have their work cut out for them. If they can manage the personalities successfully, it will be very, very impressive.
Nash is a 1st time HC with not a lot of assistant coaching experience. Nash was only a consultant with GSW before getting Nets gig. He will need all the help he can get.
their paths were very different. most start as an assistant, sure. Rudy was promoted to HC, won 2 championships, had to step down for medical reasons. when he wanted another HC job had no issues finding one, and landed the biggest job in the league replacing Phil Jackson in LA. however he again had to step down due to medical reasons. MDA changed the nba when he was with the suns. he's a HOF coach for that. however his stops in NY and LA were so bad he couldn't get a HC spot afterwards. he found an assistant role until Les wanted the rockets to be like the suns so they'd be "fun." our 65 win team was amazing but apparently he didn't do enough for any other team to think he should lead them this year. MDA is a good coach, but my original point being he's somewhat overrated by a faction of this board who tie too much of our success these last few years to him. of course there is a section of this board who also think he's clueless which isn't fair or accurate either. I'm somewhere in the middle. he 100% should be credited for unlocking harden's MVP potential. but he also got out-coached in the playoffs each year.
whether or not Rudy could get a HC position was never in question - his health was... He signed a 5/30M contract before his health concerns - and then stayed employed by the Lakers for the next like 12 years... He didnt kick around the league for a couple decades trying to hold a job... Please dont compare MDA with Rudy - in any respect.
Some NBA fans seem to have a bit of a misconception of how assistant coaches are viewed by players in the NBA. Assistant coaches don't get "assistant respect", so to speak, especially when they're the caliber of Mike D'Antoni. Nash + D'Antoni is a pretty damn good coaching lineup.
Dantoni and Nash teaming up to coach is actually kind of awesome. I'm just too mired in disappointment appreciate it. We are watching multiple teams get better at our expense. And OKC hasn't used all their picks yet. Wishing success for all MDA and Morey. Should have Rockets rings from 2018, dammit.
He probably could have gotten the HC gig when Pacers were interested. Both MDA/Rockets org dragged their feet, so he probably missed out. Plus, other guys like Doc Rivers became available. Being an assistant to Nash, that'd be an interesting reunion. Pairing Kyrie and KD with MDA, even if assistant job; I wonder if he could push those two more offensively.
Carl using up all his super clever title making in the other forum or something. Ass. Coach a gimmie.
