sucks for Conley but really, who wasn't expecting an injury out of him? the grizz did well on locking him up long term for big money, knowing he'll never earn a quarter of it. looking after their own, respak.

This comment is amazing in hindsight.

The main problem to parity in the NBA is poorly thought out restrictions by an overzealous ruling body, yet the entire post is addressed to the very people trying to strip back regulation to encourage competition.

I mean holy crap lol. It's like shooting yourself in the foot, and then blaming other people for not helping when your bleeding to death.

The best solution: Ditch the max salary but keep the cap.

Players will never go for this. Every extra dollar that can go to the superstars is one less dollar available for everyone else. The players don't want Lebron to be able to make $60MM.

Best solution to what? Fan interest in the NBA is at a very high level, particularly in the offseason.

The superteam Warriors thing is annoying, but then again, they're not blowing away the league the way people thought they were this year, and most of their team was acquired (unlike Durant) through incredibly fortunate drafting - aka chance which is what "parity" rules like the draft is supposed to maximize. Likewise, 5 years ago they kind of weren't sh-t, and Miami ruled the roost.

In a 30-team league, there's gonna just be NBA backwaters. Outliers like San Antonio that are excellent for a long time are the exception not the rule. Memphis, you're going to be one. You just are. You'll have to overpay for players. No salary cap is going to change that (unless all wages were fixed...), but even then you'd have to offer something else to compensate.

Every body keeps saying the max salary should be removed but it will never happen.

First of all if they actually did it the NBA will crash and burn because dumb teams will put 90% of their cap to Parsons and Conley and will be locked to NBA purgatory for like 6 years. You think NBA audience will watch a tean with 1 superstar abd then scrubs? Teams won't approve it to protect themselves.

Secondly it will never pass because majority of the players will oppose it. Superstars will get 80% of the cap and all the rest will make the minimum. So just stop saying that because it will never happen.
