i didn't hear the interview, but did it mention future salary cap expectations? because my understanding from hearing it twice now from other people is that after the huge increase this year and next, the cap might actually go down the following offseason. at some point handing out the max like candy is going to mean something.

maybe not if you want to win next year, but if you are looking at a window 2 to 3 years down the road, which i have to think the rockets are, then paying mike conley $30M to be an above average point guard might become constraining. in 2 years maybe managing the cap well will mean something when no one has cap space because the cap stops going up and people handed out contracts like the cap was doubling instead of going up 50%.

now the rockets might be in the bad position of having a short-term goal - impressing james harden so he'll sign back with us - that hurts us long term and we might have to do something like sign conley anyway. if you guarantee me that we're getting horford also, then you could sell me on harden/horford/conley as a core and then trying to finagle some cap room the following offseason to sign a last big piece. but if you aren't also getting a horford/whiteside, then i'm not sure harden/conley/role players is much to look forward to. you're going to need another big name no matter what, and probably a durant to actually make that a title contender. and is that duo enticing a big free agent, much less durant, the next offseason?

Grizzlies wanting Chandler Portions is odd to me. They end up slowing it down so much and needing someone to create something at the last minute. He's turrrible at that and needs space to be effective. Also not much of a grinder on D but maybe they think their fanbase would like him or something.

Conley is a decent player but considering you can find decent pgs in the DLeague he's clearly not worth 30M or even 20M. All he is right now is a name, if you have Mike Conley then you can say you have a star and a few fans will come and watch your games. Unfortunately the NBA will always be the land of the giants, when it's the last possession you have a higher chance of getting the bucket if the guy holding the ball is Lebron or Harden or KD rather than CP3 or Conley or Lowry. 3s sort of make up for that nowadays but Conley isn't an elite 3 pt shooter so that doesn't really count.

Parsona would be a decent 3rd playmaker for the Grizzlies behind Conley and Gasol, his defensive deficiencies masked by the team defense and his 3pt shooting help space the floor. But not sure if Parsons will be abke to adjust to a slow tempo game.

I've seen a lot of people - fans on this BBS, media members and anlysts, etc. - question Parsons value.

In truth, the only thing to question is his knee.

If you knew 100% it would be healthy (well, absent something freak accident happening), he'd have multiple max offers already. He'll probaby get one anyway.

When he's healthy, he's about as solid a just below all-star player as you'll find. Check out his splits last year for example:
    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/parsoch01/splits/2016/

Once he got his legs back under him, he was great. Post all-star break for example, 17.6 points, 5.6 boards, 4.1 assists, shooting 45% from 3 and a 63% true shooting percentage! It was only 17 games, but you can look by month, too. His last 36 games were basically like that.

If healthy, he'd be a great fit on the Grizzliers or Blazers, you're correct.
