If Phil was coaching this team they'd be a lock for the title. The Zen Master would pull off a 3 peat with this team.
Wow, this is ridiculous. Think these comments could get him fired if the front office realizes what a fail his offense is.
This coming from a coach that had to hire another coach to teach his team the 'Princeton' offence, because he doesn't have a clue. If you have Nash with Gasol and Dwight, what else would you run? Pick'n'roll, pick'n'slip, Pick'n'roll, pick'n'slip, Pick'n'roll, pick'n'slip...pass to Kobe...Pick'n'roll, pick'n'slip. Gasol could even pick'n'fade...Brown, smh.
btw, I could absolutely see Phil Jackson saying the same thing to the media, except... he's Phil Jackson.
It was a bizarre decision to hire him in the first place. The Lakers needed a highly respected veteran coach with rings to back up what he says. It was never going to work, and perhaps Nash isn't a good fit, but you change coaches before you dump Nash.
When you have Nash, you don't even need a play book. Just give him the ball and let him direct the offense. Give Mr. Pringles a call, Mike.
The GM was actually set to hire Adleman but the owner nixed it and went with Brown. (I'm 82% sure of this story but I'm too lazy to go find a link that might back it up.) And Mike Brown should keep his mouth shut. If it weren't for LeBron James he'd be coaching at the University of NE Maine - Millinocket campus.
I agree that Rick Adelman was a good fit, especially when Odom was still there. Titles or not, there were a lot of years this decade when I thought he was the best coach in the NBA, or at least in the top 3. He develops talent well & overachieves with decimated rosters. They'd be my favorites in the west had he been hired.
