“How the hell am I supposed to know every single statement someone makes?” DeSantis said. “I’m not going to bow down to the altar of political correctness, I’m not going to let the media smear me.” Gillum’s response drew loud reaction from the audience, and later went viral. “I’m not calling Mr. DeSantis a racist,” Gillum said. “I’m saying the racists believe he’s a racist.” Gillum has never said anything more fact.
I think DeSantis and Scott both pull off close wins on Tuesday. Won't be surprised if Republicans hold on to keep the House as well.
Buried in the Chronicle's story last night about a "Democrat edge" in early voting: "There are some encouraging signs for county Republicans. The most popular early voting locations included the Republican strongholds of Kingwood, Cypress, Champion Forest and Spring Branch." https://m.chron.com/news/houston-te...County-shatters-13359462.php?ipid=mobbreaking
DeSantis is a stiff. All the Republican gov. candidates sucked. The guy has no charm or substance. He's the Hillary of Republicans. Gillum is saying all the right things. Moderates and the left love him. If he can pull off the next 6 years w/out screwing up Fl, he will be a prime presidential candidate. I am a bit surprised Scott is not decisively winning. Florida has been good with getting nation wide attention on its candidates, but they always seem to flounder in the spot light once they hit DC. I had high hopes for Rubio in 2016. The guy will never be ready for the big league.
I agree that DeSantis has not been the greatest candidate, but he will benefit from running against someone under the cloud of an FBI investigation and who is far to the left of where a majority of Florida voters are. As to Scott, he is running against someone who has been in Florida politics for decades -- a liability for Nelson but also a fact that presents some challenges. It will be no small accomplishment to unseat him, despite all of Nelson's flaws.
If Republicans hold the House on Tuesday in addition to maintaining control of the Senate, the polling community is going to be in for a rough ride, especially after what we witnessed in 2016. I won't be surprised at all if this is what transpires. With the ways of the media these days, I can't imagine that many Republican voters are still taking calls from pollsters, or answering questions (or if they are answering them, answering them honestly) on their way out of the voting booth for the exit polls. My gut tells me that many if not most of the polls are skewed toward the Democrats and that there will be many surprised pundits Tuesday night.
I'm confused. I think every single poll has said it would be nearly impossible for the Democrats to take the Senate. So if Republicans hold the Senate which every poll predicts will happen the "polling community" is going to be in for a rough ride? What exactly is the "polling community"? Who comprises the polling community?
I'm referring to all the polls showing Dems with leads in the generic congressional ballot and all the prognosticators expecting the Dems to take the House. Polling community is what it is -- those who take the polls.
I agree that if the Republicans hold the house it would be a slight surprise. It is definitely possible and most pollsters that I've seen have said as much. But the Dems are favored to take the House. We will find out Tuesday night or Weds. morning.
I don't agree with a lot of dem policies (fiscal) and can't bring myself to vote for them, but the GOP just has so many racist ****-bags that I can't fathom them getting elected either. Republican candidate’s children warn people not to vote for him: ‘He must be stopped’ A Republican candidate’s own children have warned voters in Missouri against electing their “fanatic” father to the state assembly, just days before the midterms. “A lot of his views are just very out there,” Emily West said of her father, Steve West. “He’s made multiple comments that are racist and homophobic and how he doesn’t like the Jews,” she told the Kansas City Star this week. “I can’t imagine him being in any level of government." Her brother, Andy West, told the newspaper his father is a “fanatic” that “must be stopped”. “His ideology is pure hatred. It’s totally insane … If he gets elected, it would legitimise him. Then he would become a state official, and he’s saying that Jews shouldn’t even have civil rights,” he said. Antisemitic and homophobic comments by Steve West, who goes by the name “Jack Justice” on his YouTube channel, have come to light since he comfortably won his Republican primary in August. “Looking back in history, unfortunately, Hitler was right about what was taking place in Germany,” he said on a radio show in 2017. In attacks on the LGBT+ community, the 64-year-old has said homosexuality and paedophilia are “absolutely linked” and described women’s athletics as a “breeding ground for lesbianism”. Just this week, Steve West told NBC News, without providing evidence: “The homosexual world, they are by much greater per cent predators – especially when it comes to boys.” The Missouri Republican Party, which does not endorse him, has previously branded his comments “shocking and vile” and said his rhetoric has “absolutely no place in the party”. Despite the party’s condemnation, Steve West still has the opportunity to become the Republican state representative of the state’s 15th district on Tuesday. “I’m deeply disturbed by his candidacy,” Jon Carpenter, the Democratic incumbent, said of his opponent. “It’s my hope that the voters of the 15th district overwhelmingly reject that kind of bigotry on election day.”
