The worst part of last night was that Feingold lost in Wisconsin. The most honest guy on the senate floor is gone, and that's too bad. The best news is that nutcase Sharon Angle lost in Nevada. Harry Reid will continue Majority leader. That best news may not beat out Feingold's loss.
Yes, let's fix all our problems by giving more money to the rich and increase our deficit even more! Hilarious. That's an easy one for Obama to oppose and look good on.
I don't know -- I am picturing a "new" campaign featuring how good things were in America in early 1929, in terms of new wealth creation, small government, and a huge disparity in wealth distribution. "America, we can get there again! In fact, we nearly did until Obama and his agenda diverted us!" My snide comments aside, I am open to seeing some real solutions and hopefully some cooperation. Not going to hold my breath though. Agree with those bemoaning Feingold. What... the heck... did those voters want? Smart, hardworking, honest dude busting his hump for his constituents. Guess the unemployment hit him hardest.
yeah, those minor details like unemployment..... meanwhile, us Republicans are still celebrating the glorious victory from yesterday!
You do realize your gains came from independents not republicans right? You guys better do something in the next two years or we'll see another flip in 2012
lol @ daryl morey's twitter: My son is watching the Texas election coverage explain the positions of each party & said, "I get it. So the Democrats are like Robin Hood?" http://twitter.com/dmorey
I get the feeling Republican governing strategy from 2010-12 will be much like bigtexxx's recent posts. More style than substance. (If you can call decade old gifs "style")
Were you open to cooperation when Obama said: "we can't have special interests sitting shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back." “If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’" President Obama listened to Republican gripes about his stimulus package during a meeting with congressional leaders Friday morning - but he also left no doubt about who's in charge of these negotiations. "I won," Obama noted matter-of-factly, according to sources familiar with the conversation. How about when Republicans had no say in the health care package?
That's a good analogy in an alternate reality where the Robin Hood character was actually a wealthy prince taking money from his nobles to give to the poor while he himself stashed money wherever possible to avoid giving more than he wanted.
Republicans had no say in the health care package? Are you nucking futs? You think what was passed was the full package that the Democrats wanted?
you missed a historic swing of over 60 seats, that gives the republicans a House majority the size of which they haven't enjoyed since 1946, with Dem lifers like Oberstar and Ike Skelton losing- that's quite a mulligan. and that's not even the biggest story of the night- republican gains in state legislatures were even more sweeping, and this will have profound effects on redistricting in several key states (what happened to Dems in the Texas state legislature?) a few other random thoughts: i agree about losing Feingold- he was a classy guy, but Johnson ran a solid campaign and has a future. what was his (Feingold's) comment about 2012 about? i think all of us feel a little unclean after the Nevada senate race- there was no good outcome, but my it sucks to have harry reid back in the senate. one wonders what chuck schumer must be thinking ("reid's victory is like a dagger through the heart of....") there are no blacks left in the senate. that sucks. Republicans elected hispanic, black, indian, and female candidates to congress and statewide offices across the country. Dem charges of "racist teabaggers?" Epic Fail. Bad night for Obama. Spoiler looking at results in the Delaware, Nevada, and (potentially) Alaska, folks will claim it was a refudiation of Palin and the Tea Parties (they're not the same thing.) I disagree- one could argue that the Angle/ODonnell candidacies provided a significant distraction to the national democratic party, and caused them to lose focus elsewhere. in any case, without the Tea Parties and the enthusiasm that Palin drives, the republicans would not have made any where near the gains they did. a lot of these folks are entirely new to politics, and a lot was learned in this cycle, lessons that will be immensely valuable in 2012 and beyond. like rebuilding the Cowboys, this will be a multi-draft effort. last night they restocked the offensive line- they can address the secondary in 2012 (and with a little Luck, get a new QB.) what a ****ed up state california is, and is going to be for the foreseeable future. Huge night for Jim Demint- the new force in the party. still trying to figure out how republicans did so well with Michael Steele running the national party- he should quit soon, make way for someone better equipped for grassroots organizing- Palin? Boehner was pure class last night- he'll be a welcome replacement for Pelosi, who really should retire, maybe become mayor of SF. no gloating, but heh.
the other new republican star from florida. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1KeCuRnzxbM?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1KeCuRnzxbM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I look into the previous elections and average around 30 seats, so now it is double, that is impressive than.
The Republicans proved they were unwilling to work on their own ideas if Obama supported them. Those things he said were in reaction to the Republicans refusing to work. Almost every idea in the Health Care package is a Republican one, yet the GOP voted against it. The idea to fund infrastructure projects was one Republicans had said they would be fore, but once Obama supported it they changed their minds. The idea for helping small businesses with tax breaks Republicans had introduced and supported, yet when Obama went even further giving a 100% tax break on hiring and research, the GOP turned against it all of a sudden. The GOP talks about reducing spending and cutting waste, but when Obama proposed cuts to wasteful parts of Medicare to pay for the health care reform, the Republicans came out against it. The health care bill is deficit neutral according to bi-partisan committees. Once the GOP starts opposing all of their own ideas once Obama supported, then he was right to stop taking their ideas. Now they can either get on board, or ride in the back as Obama said.
Just because a person respects his honestly, doesn't mean they should vote for the guy. I wouldn't vote for an honest man if I absolutely hated his politics.
second time someone has said this. I hope you guys don't think it means a more progressive candidate could have won those seats?
