yes, blocking economic recovery and tanking the economy is what the republicans are very good at so i expect that from them.
many reps have run on just that - i think the house will revoke the health care act as a political stunt. then they will launch some dumb investigation into obama like they did with CLinton. This is how they behave and history has borne that out. Other than that, they really have no platform. They can't cut taxes anymore with the deficits the way the are, and cutting spending on what? The stimulus is over, Tarp is done, and discretionary spending is such a small percentage of the deficit. What are they going to do, end social security? With a democratic president? The relationship between dems and republicans is so poisoned the dems will not work with them. Obama will not give an inch. He can simply say the republicans are blocking him from doing anything. There is no way for the two sides to cut spending. There's way too much politics for both sides to actually end any entitlement program. So it's going to be two years of symbolic b.s. The Republican agenda has already been stated - to get Obama out of office. In the meantime, China will continue to overtake us.
Here's how to tell how serious republicans will be: Symbolic: Repeal health Care Act Serious: Pass laws blocking funding Symbolic: Go after ear marks to cut deficit spending (earmarks < 1% of spend) Serious: Try to raise retirement age or means-testing Medicare Symbolic: investigate / attack Obama relentlessly Serious: Decide to work together I don't think they will be serious. They don't have the stomach, plus if they do anything serious they will piss off a lot of people or piss of Glen Beck.

Oh sure they will try and they might even get an initial vote repealing health care out of the house but it will be DOA in the Senate. They will investigate but considering what happened the last time they impeached a President I doubt even Boehner would let that come to a vote. I agree. At the moment there is really no Republican agenda except to oppose Obama. They have already said that. I know you are debating the Pro-PRC posters in other threads but was that really necessary to bring this up in this thread?

My point is that while we bicker amongst ourselves another nation will take advantage. In 100 years when people write about our decline and how the Chinese and Indians over took us, they will point to our political partisan bickering that prevented us from getting anything real done. We are truly a nation divided. Divided we stand, together we'll fall.
