You are right, so why not let credit card companies charge you as many fees and hidden penalties as they like? The rest of us don't want to pay it and so we'll get laws to make it so credit card companies can't.
Better to struggle and survive than to have gone out of business which is what would have happened without TARP and the stimulus. I am glad our country is in recovery. We should all be thankful for Obama making the right call despite knowing it would hurt his poll rating.
Hidden penalties? If it's not in the contract that I sign then they can't charge me. Just read what you sign. This is something every adult should do.
robbers use force. Private companies can;t use force. Only the government can use force (or the government can sanction others to use force). A) Your beef is with the justice system if you think our justice system benefits the rich. B) If you think credit card companies will take advantage of you through the justice system then don't use credit cards.
you sign a contract when you opened up a bank account or a credit card????? wow, i wonder who you work with. I have an Amex card and 4 different credit cards - and i've never signed any contract. Same with my cable and phone bill.
Sorry to break it to you dude. I did not. Clicking a check box online is not a signature. But you know, you can side with credit card companies if you like. Let them be your hero's. I use to work in marketing for a credit card company whose name I won't mention. I will say we did segment analysis for them and determined that it was much easier to juke middle class and younger people out of their money with fees and penalties than those who had a lot more money and older...so we'd come up with specific products meant for those audiences to get more money out of them. You don't realize this, but it's a huge windfall. Think about it, you pay $10 penalty on a $20 withdrawl if you simply put the wrong card into the ATM! So we make the cards all look like to increase that outcome. It's a beautiful thing.
Funny stuff. Organizing for America Friend -- A couple things are going to happen in the next half hour. Partisan attack ads funded by big banks and big oil will air over and over on national cable television. Outrageous right-wing smear messages will arrive in inboxes around the country. And dozens of voters in your area will make a decision about whether they'll be voting in this year's election. They're people who might not currently be planning on making it to the polls in two days. They're people who might not know what's at stake -- who might not know the choice we all have in this election. All of that is happening in the next 30 minutes. The only question is, will you be the person who changes the equation by picking up the phone and calling just 10 voters today? If each one of us calls just 10 voters in our area right now -- it could make a huge difference at the polls on Election Day. Grab your phone and click here to connect with voters in your area right now. We're not the only ones who want to get voters out to the polls this election season. The other side has a plan, too. Theirs is a plan that outsources its messaging to big special interest groups that don't have to disclose where they're getting their millions in donations. It's a plan that thinks that big money deserves a big mouthpiece. And right now, it's a plan at work in close districts around the country. So in this moment, you can choose whether or not to counter it with your voice. You can join the thousands of supporters around the country calling from their kitchens and their living rooms -- coffee shops and cubicles. Because we know that this is when our most important work is done. And we know that we are the very best ones to do it. There are just two days left until Election Day -- two days to have the kinds of one-on-one conversations that we know make the difference in close races. And right now, the single best way you can affect how many people are at the polls on November 2nd is by using your voice, right now. Click this link and reach out to just 10 voters in your area today: http://my.barackobama.com/30Minutes Thanks, Mitch Mitch Stewart Director Organizing for America
The robber baron period is a historical period in this nation. You should research what lack of regulations lead to back then. A. My beef is with the credit card companies rigging the system in their favor, and I applaud government action to regulate it in favor of protecting the citizens. B. I don't use a credit card. I know that credit card companies have taken advantage of people, and it's what lead to the recent legislation.

That is a misunderstanding. In order for a trend to reverse you measure the rate of change. Things like recoveries rarely show "V" shaped trends. What you are showing is a "U" shaped trend whereas yes things get less bad which is the hallmark of a recovery.
Again as I said in my post above things like a recovery are measured in terms of rate of change in this case it is the rate of jobs lost which we are seeing is going down. THings are not getting more bad because the rate is slowing which is what the charts show. I agree they are not going as well as Obama said they are but the rate is definitely changing. Its not happening as fast as Obama said it would be but you cannot ignore the rate of change.
here is the choice we face tomorrow. which image better encapsulates your vision for this country (or better describes the country's vision of itself?) this Spoiler or this: Spoiler
We’ve always disagreed on pretty much everything. But at least before basso was intelligent and thoughtful with his point of view. Now he’s just vindictive, nasty and just lashes out at everything. It’s really kind of sad to see. I know he’s a smart guy and has something to contribute to the discussion but lately he just doesn’t have the inclination or want to be civil at all. What’s really sad is that in a parallel universe basso probably agrees with a lot of how Obama is handling the presidency, but he has entrenched himself so much that there is no way he could even express any agreement because of how he’s created this persona. Just so full of hate for no logical reason. oh well
