He's not doing a whole lot. Trust me, I had him on my fantasy team and then dropped him for bad shooting and almost zero production across every other category. However, I believe he'd be the perfect shooter to play off of Yao and Tracy. He did very well when Iverson was creating open looks for him.
Well, turns out I was on to something on the Korver part of it anyway. The Sixers basically did the same thing with the Jazz that I was suggesting they do with the Rockets. Damn.
Thought I might as well join the fun. I know I would love this trade. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...32~138~497~566&teams=12~12~10~10~10&te=&cash=
I would rather keep the first round pick next year then add Korver especially with his contract. Morey did great with the 26 pick this year, and its likely our pick will be higher next year. Plus, next years draft could be really good with how many stud freshman there are right now (Rose, Gordon, Beasly, Mayo). Plus, there is no guarantee that we are a playoff team with the way we have struggled adjusting to Adelman. It seems this year the top teams in the West have come down a bit, and the second tier teams have improved a lot. We have already dug ourselves a hole as far as catching the Spurs, Suns, Mavs, Lakers, Hornets, Nuggets, Warriors and Blazers. Then there is still Utah to contend with. Basically a player like Korver doesnt put us clearly into the playoffs and I dont think possibly giving up a low teens pick is worth it.
I thought Rose, Gordon, Beasley, and Mayo were going to be in this years draft, along with D.J Augustin, Chase Budinger etc etc. I would actually like to see a trade in which we get a 2008 1st round draft pick, unless we get raped.
Houston Trades Kirk Snyder Carl Landry Steve Francis Los Angeles sends Sam Cassell (maybe a second rounder too? or lottery protected.) LA gets a backup for Brand and Kaman. Actually, Landry was a throw in to make salaries work. They could reunite Steve and Cuttino. They can turn around and do some other trades to get rid of their guard/sf logjam. For the Rockets, we get some HUGE BALLS to compensate for Yao's and Tracy's use of maxi pads. Sam doesn't have to play heavy minutes. Just 12 minutes a night. All in the fourth quarter.
If the Rockets want to add a third scorer, and if you think the Clippers are ripe for the picking, then how about this trade: Bonzi Wells Steve Francis Kirk Snyder FOR Corey Maggette Paul Davis http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...01~497&teams=12~12~12~10&te=2998:10-630&cash= The Rockets get an upgrade to Bonzi as the sixth man and third leading scorer, all without giving up any additional rotation players. Maggette is exceptional at attacking the basket and, unlike everyone on the Rockets other than Yao, can actually MAKE a free throw. And he gets to the line a lot. Paul Davis would be a throw-in who can be developed as an eventual backup to Yao. True centers don't come along too often. The Clippers might do this deal in order to shed salary. Maggette has a player option for next year (~$8.4M) that he would likely exercise. Bonzi, Snyder and Francis all have deals that expire after this year (Francis has a player option, but for a fraction of what Maggette would make), so the Clips can pick and choose who they want to keep. This is a realistic trade that could improve the Rockets this season and next, with the only downside being that Les Alexander may have to pay a little luxury tax next year. Thoughts?
Sorry, by next year I meant the next draft. I was talking about the 2008 draft. I would love a second round pick as well, but I dont see us trading anyone away that would net a first round pick. Hopefully Les will buy another early second rounder or maybe a late first rounder.
I would love that trade, but Im sure the Clips think they can get more for Maggette. His 8.4 million salary is not that outrageous so keeping him for one more year would not be terrible for them. I would think after all the spending their owner has done recently they would want some picks for Maggette. That way they can hopefully add talent at the rookie contracts.
You must have misunderstood me. I wasn't advocating the use of a pick in the deal I suggested. I was just saying that I figured that the Sixers wanted to dump Korver for an expiring contract and that's what they ended up doing.
How about Battier for Harpring + 2nd rounder? Jerry Sloan was griping about not having any defensive minded players and Harpring would be great in this offense. He is always pissing me off with those back cuts and getting easy layups around the basket. He doesn't shoot from the 3 as well as Battier, but overall he shoots better. He can come off of screens and shoot. Basically he is a more versatile offensive player who is not as good defensively but is very tough. His toughness could inspire the Rockets. I hate him on the Jazz but have a feeling he is one of those guys you would like on your team.
Considering the developments in Golden State: Luther Head 6-3 PG / SG from Illinois 6.2 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 1.5 apg in 16.3 minutes Shane Battier 6-8 SF from Duke 8.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.6 apg in 34.8 minutes for Troy Hudson 6-1 PG from Southern Illinois 3.1 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 10.4 minutes Marco Belinelli 6-6 SG from Italy 2.1 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 8.5 minutes Mickael Pietrus 6-6 SG / SF from France (Foreign) 6.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 0.5 apg in 17.1 minutes The Rockets get two disgruntled SGs moving T-Mc back to small forward. Both are athletic and young. Golden State gets a rock solid sixth man in Shane who has a reasonable contract and a 3-point specialist. I think this trade works for both teams. Hudson we just waive and pay the remainder of his salary, which is about $1.5M by now.
I don't like that trade at all. I think Belinelli is worthless this year. Pietrus is a nice player, but he isn't worth two rotation guys.
James has become an expensive bench warmer. If they trade him it'll most likley be for someone with a longer or bigger contract. For James I think the Rockets can only hope for: Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker, Jared Jeffries, Troy Murphy, or Jason Williams.
I think we should really make a trade..involving Mike James, Franchise, Snyder, Novak or picks...the rest are playing well right now and we must be cost efficient.Maybe we can strengthen more our team in other positions so that we can solidify our bench..
Yes, but Golden State won't let loose of Pietrus and Bellini without getting something in return. Because of his speed and athleticism, Pietrus is a much better defender than Battier -- and certainly has more offense. Bellini gives us the deadeye for whom we dreamed when we drafted Steve Novak. The new lineup: Brooks / Alston / James (yes, I am liking Brooks more) Pietrus / Bonzi / Bellini / Francis T-Mc / Snyder / Novak Scola / Hayes / Landry Yao / Deke
pleaase read what Nelson has to say about why Pietrus was reduced to 12 mpg in December. He stunk it up. The guy can jump but is not close to being as good as battier on defense. His offense is also average at best. Particularly, do you want to trade the best 3 pt shooters on the team for another guy who barely hits 30 percent from the arc? The Rockets need more shooters and smart players, not less, not another Kirk Snyder when the first Kirk does not contribute
