Rather than come up with proposed trades for the guys we'd LIKE to see dealt, how about some for guys who are LIKELY to be dealt? In other words, realistic scenarios instead of wishful thinking. Some of the people often mentioned in trades here (Rafer, T-Mac, Battier, Luther) will simply not be dealt. Removing any of those key guys, even for quality in return, would dictate that everyone get used to each other's styles all over again. Ain't gonna happen. Les and Morey have put their eggs in the Adelman basket and will NOT make wholesale changes of this team in mid-season of his first year. And that's as it SHOULD be. A few months in, these guys are JUST NOW beginning to understand the offense; bringing in anyone else would mean another month or two of us sucking while yet another few guys get up to speed. Morey and RA know this, so only guys who are not key players are likely to be moved. Looking at the roster, I see the most likely guys as: * MJ -- Sure, he's sucked the last dozen or so times on the court and is at the end of the bench, but I think any GM or coach who thought highly of MJ before this season probably thinks he's just in a bad situation (which may be true). He certainly hasn't lost his game overnight. So SOMEbody would welcome him. * Snyder -- Young and lots of potential, but doesn't seem to mesh well with RA's style. Again, there's value here for someone, albeit minimal. * Novak -- Has enough promise to possibly tip a deal as a throw-in, or maybe land us a 2nd-round pick. I'd put Francis, Hayes and Mutombo on the bubble. I think Morey might be willing to trade Francis, but I don't think he'd get enough in return to make it worthwhile. Since nobody would want him, especially after the start of this season and more injuries, Stevie's actually worth more to us to hang on to him just on the off-chance that eventual surgery might restore him to at least a key bench role. Hayes is an outside shot. If Morey thinks Landry and Scola have progressed fast enough to warrant more time, Chuck is a valuable trade piece -- good blue-collar guy at a cheap price. No lack of suitors for that. Mutombo hasn't contributed much at all this year and is an expiring contract, but he's good insurance in case [don't... even... think it!] and has shown he can still be a defensive presence in limited minutes, so I can't really see Morey moving him. So we've got MJ, Snyder and Novak as the best bets to change colors. All these Rafer/T-Mac/Battier/Luther/Bonzi trades just aren't going to happen. UNLESS... We trade for someone who has played under RA before and knows the system. Then the adjustment curve is not nearly as steep and Morey and RA would be more likely to pull the trigger.
its next to impossible for mutombo to be traded away. This is his final season, and he plan to end it in houston. The rox sign him in good faith that this will be the final season and he be playing limited minutes. Same goes for SF3, even if SF3 is left rotten at the end of the bench, i doubt very much that rox would want to deal him. Its something like a gentleman agreement with these veterans.
Kirk Snyder + Cash to the Sonics for the Ray Allen Trade Exception Why would the Sonics do it? Potential, and a very low risk move. They don't break the luxury tax line, they get a very athletic young player, and get to evaluate him before he goes to free agency. Why would the Rockets do it? It frees up enough money to sign Mike Harris to a rookie minimum deal without breaking the LT line.
Concur. This trade thought seems to make sense. Also, IIRC there is a team option on Snyder. If Seattle didn't like what they saw, they could drop him at the end of the season. If they did, they could exercise the option at $3.3M for the next season.
Think we can get Chuck Hayes for a 1st rounder from Phoenix? They need someone to take on Duncan and he's cheap enough. Besides we seem to do better drafting near the bottom of the first round than near the top.
I love Hayes but with Scola and Landry looking very very legit he is the odd man out. But he plays hard which teams like...I like a trade of Hayes and Mike James for Sam Cassell. It works financially.
A guy I really like is Danny Granger of Indiana Pacers. He has size, range, and lots of potential. I would trade T-Mac for Danny Granger and Troy Murphy to make salaries work. Both players should be able to give more spacing to Yao with their outside shooting.
I'd love this trade, but no way cheap arse Sterling takes on James' contract. We need to hurry up and ship him to the Knicks before Isiah is fired, drying up the NBA's depository of bad contracts.
I would never trade T-Mac for an above average player and an average player. T-Mac does injury often, but he is the only one that can create shots for himself and the team down the stretch. Plus The team that gets the best player in a trade always wins. (Boston)
I'd go for Nocioni. Bulls are trying to trade him, and he'd be a good fit for the Rockets. Added chemistry with Scola. Only bad thing is his contract, and that's a big bad thing. He's worth it though.
Admins: I forgot to ask that this thread be closed in favor of the newer one, which focuses on more realistic tweaking rather than wild home-run trade T-Mc extravaganzas this one inspired.
Watching the sonics over the last two games, I honsetly wish we had some expiring contracts to get Wally or Collison its pipe dreaming but both of those guys would be great in AR system. Haslem could be on the block since he's Miami's only chip, snd they need shooting Mike James and Novak (or even Francis for that matter) for Haslem?
