Hey guys, I have a set of data which shows the unemployment rates of the US for every month from 2000-2010. I need to know how to table it so that when i turn it into a line graph, I have only 1 line. ATM, with the way I have entered the data, it is coming up with 12 lines - A line for every month. I need unemployment rate on the y axis and years (2000-2010) on the x axis. I have tabled the data as follows (this format ends up showing a separate line for each month, but i want one line, with 132 plots along it for each month over the 11 year period.) It would look like this if you change the dates in this site from Jan 2000-Dec 2010: http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Unemployment-Rate.aspx?Symbol=AUD Here is my data - how should it be tabulated so that I get the result i need - 1 line, 132 plots along it.. 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Jan 4 4.2 5.7 5.8 5.7 5.3 4.7 4.6 5 7.7 9.7 Feb 4.1 4.2 5.7 5.9 5.6 5.4 4.8 4.5 4.8 8.2 9.7 Mar 4 4.3 5.7 5.9 5.8 5.2 4.7 4.4 5.1 8.6 9.7 Apr 3.8 4.4 5.9 6 5.6 5.2 4.7 4.5 5 8.9 9.9 May 4 4.3 5.8 6.1 5.6 5.1 4.6 4.4 5.4 9.4 9.7 Jun 4 4.5 5.8 6.3 5.6 5 4.6 4.6 5.5 9.5 9.5 Jul 4 4.6 5.8 6.2 5.5 5 4.7 4.6 5.8 9.4 9.5 Aug 4.1 4.9 5.7 6.1 5.4 4.9 4.7 4.6 6.1 9.7 9.6 Sep 3.9 5 5.7 6.1 5.4 5 4.5 4.7 6.2 9.8 9.6 Oct 3.9 5.3 5.7 6 5.5 5 4.4 4.7 6.6 10.1 9.6 Nov 3.9 5.5 5.9 5.8 5.4 5 4.5 4.7 6.9 10 9.8 Dec 3.9 5.7 6 5.7 5.4 4.9 4.4 5 7.4 10 9.4 Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Need it for an assignment! Cheers guys.
Right-click, paste-special, text. There will be a little clipboard icon that shows up on the lower-left corner of the pasted-in column. Select that, and choose text-to-columns. Or, select the column, and do text-to-columns from the Data tab. Edit: Oh, i think what you want to do is just paste the transpose? Select your table, then right-click, paste special elsewhere. Select transpose checkbox.
I wasn't reading carefully enough what you were asking for before. What I said doesn't answer your question. I don't know of a way to do that, other than just joining all the rows manually. It would hardly take a minute.
Hmm, forgive my ignorance (pretty much first time using excel) but im not sure what you mean by this?? As in, joining all the rows??
Is this what you want it to look like? I copied your data, did a paste-special with transpose selected. Then, I joined all the rows into one line (manually).
Very similar to what i want - and what you have done seems to be much better than what I have. However, I need just one line, joining the top of each of those columns.
Thanks so much mate! much appreciated! Now all I have to do, is put a separate line, over the same graph, with Australia's unemployment figures.. 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Jan 6.5 6.2 7 6.1 5.5 5.1 5.1 4.5 4.2 4.9 5.4 Feb 6.5 6.2 7 6.1 5.5 5.1 5.1 4.5 4.2 4.8 5.3 Mar 6.4 6.6 6.6 6 5.7 5.1 5.1 4.6 4 5.4 5.3 Apr 6.6 6.3 6.4 6.1 5.4 5.2 4.9 4.4 4.1 5.7 5.4 May 6.5 6.8 6.3 6 5.5 5.1 4.9 4.3 4.2 5.4 5.4 Jun 6.4 6.8 6.3 6.1 5.3 5.1 4.8 4.3 4.3 5.8 5.2 Jul 6.2 6.9 6.5 6.1 5.5 5 4.8 4.3 4.2 5.8 5.1 Aug 6.1 6.9 6.2 6.1 5.5 5 4.7 4.3 4.3 5.7 5.3 Sep 6.1 6.9 6.3 5.8 5.5 4.9 4.7 4.3 4.1 5.8 5.1 Oct 6 6.8 6.3 5.8 5.4 5 4.7 4.2 4.3 5.7 5.1 Nov 6 7.1 6.1 5.8 5.1 5.1 4.5 4.4 4.4 5.8 5.4 Dec 6.3 6.9 6.2 5.7 5.2 5 4.6 4.5 4.5 5.6 5.2 Any idea how to do that man??
Yeah, you just add the joined columns as another row. Then when you graph the table, it will show two lines.
