You guys don't have to like Michael Moore. A lot of liberals don't either. You could make a case that he seeks attention, that he's as biased and affected by his bias as anyone on the left or right, poke holes in his politics, poke holes in his movies, whatever, but he's never been about money. His point with this letter is clear. I don't care how many BBSers think they've figured him for an opportunist -- his point is perfectly clear and you know what it is. And it's not about money.
Yeah, that's how Michael Moore makes a point. It's the minute maneuvering of details. The Dixie Chicks overall sales may have dropped 80%, yet he chooses to point out they're still #1 on the country music charts, which is pretty obvious seeing as how the Dixie Chicks aren't really country artists. They appeal to a much wider range of music fans than real country artists, whose audience is limited to...country music fans.
Just about every major artist that puts out a record has big sales the first few weeks then there is a huge drop off. That Moore mentioned the Dixie Chicks is silly anyhow, one member made a one sentence statement against the president. Thats why I mentioned Fred Durst earlier. One sentence does not make a protest, especially something so innocuous. That Moore is sticking to his guns about the standing O is ridiculous as well. I was watching and half that crowd was booing him, no doubt about that.
This cd has been out for 31 weeks and is 6x Platinum (6 million sold). The fact that it's still #1 on any chart is impressive.
I think the Dixie Chicks have more money than Bush does, so by the Republican ethics code that means they have every right to critisize him and tell him how to live his life.
the dixie chicks album (like outlaw said) has been out for 31 weeks. the album was hugely successful early on and was staying steady, even getting back to number 1 at one point, for a long time. like any grammy nominated album (and especially a grammy winner) they got a huge boost from the grammy's, thus the 208,000 number. the week after the grammy's, when everyone who won then takes a big hit after the huge jump (and when natalie made here comment) the dixie chicks actually had a smaller percentage drop than all but one other album in the top 10. the next week, i think they actually had a bigger drop than most others and it all pretty much came out equal. they are at 36,000 now b/c it's been out for a long time and albums that are out for a long time are lucky to sell this much. plus there is always a little sales slump this time of year (then there will be a boost easter weekend). overall, they're right about where they would be controversy or no controversy i would say. currently number 16 on billboard. only two albums that have been out longer are higher, with norah jones still reaping huge grammy benefits.
ooh i just realized by supporting the dixie chicks didn't get hurt part of the article it may have sounded like i agree/like/don't despise michael moore. i don't even know much about him, but from what i do, i can't stand him. oh and the article was refreshingly humble.
Wow I thought they had put out a new album, had no idea they were talking about an album out that long. I guess I was thinking new tour new album
No it wasn't...hence, the confusion here. If he wanted to make his point more clear and emphatic, he should have not used his own situation, imo, as the biases there are obvious.
