I think it's definetely that most of them don't think it should be a crime. agreed about the stupid words. All he had to simply say was "I f'ed up" and nobody woulda had anything to say about it. Somebody needs to give him better advice.
C'mon now. Vick isn't r****ded. Obviously he isn't going to say he should be excused. If he had just admitted to doing very bad things and taken responsibility for his actions, nobody would say anything. Instead, he blamed it on "immaturity" which is rubbish. The problem was he enjoyed dogfighting and the torturing of animals. Since when did dogfighting and torture have anything to do with maturity? The first thing out of his mouth should have been: "I have no excuses for what I did. It was wrong." Don't even give a so-called reason, especially a lame one like that. Vick's credibility is totally blown because he played ignorant and lied at first. Any lame explanation his gives right now is worthless.
just a question, what did you expect him to say before he was caught? this is another silly complaint, not defending lying, but if you're not caught, why give your self up? you're already a criminal, so the most you can hope for is not getting caught.
He could have said "no comment". One of the consequences of lying is people don't believe you any more and Vick will have to live with that. On another note, I just saw his press conference and he came across pretty well. He owned up to his mistake and hopefully will turn things around. I didn't like his two references to immaturity but whatever. He was so stone-faced I couldn't tell how sincere he was but his words were very appropriate. It was better than I had expected. Good job Vick. Now the only thing that matters is what he actually does with his life.
He said the best things you could say in this situation. He seemed sincere, but only actions and time will tell.
Read the link instead of the soundbite. He says what you wanted him to say, plus the tidbit about the immaturity and finding Jesus.
Crime deserves time, but no apology being accepted is more harsh than it should be. Now before I'm flamed, read the entire post... He did not kill your pet. He killed, very cruelly killed, animals raised purposely by him to fight and kill and injure other animals. Chicken farmers raise chickens and kill them like clockwork... raised for the purpose of killing them. The difference? The chickens get eaten. What some don't realize is that many, many chicken farmers feed dead chickens back to the others chickens by mixing into their feed... Many cow farmers grind up dead cows and feed it back to the other cows by mixing into their feed... The difference? They don't gamble over it. My main point is that a LOT of weird crap happens to animals raised specifically to be killed - but some of it is legal and unquestioned. Who knows. The gray areas on animal rights have a ton of double standards. I eat chicken, I eat beef... some people eat dog... and while I know Vick did not eat dog meat... many chickens and cows don't get eaten just because they are killed. I don't justify in any way the actions Mike Vick took, but I have to at least try and stomach his apology at the same time. Vick is a human after all, and I'd want the same forgiveness if I had to apologize for something I'd done, no matter how late in life I came to the realization that it was "immature" and horrible. BTW- Immature fits... "childish" would not fit. Several criminals have not fully developed into a proper adult thought life... thus immaturity fits the bill. It is a more than adequate description. I'm also more interested to see who he turns over to the authorities in his plea deal... than pass any more judgment than the courts will when it ALL comes down. Put it this way... if he has just now realized it was an immature way of life, concerning his treatment of animals, the company he kept... gambling, then he just matured a little... a little. It was the hard way to grow up, but more than some people do in their life time.
I agree. My take on it is that most people will accept animal death for a purpose they agree with. A hunter, researcher. or a butcher are commonly accepted roles, with a window of disagreement from time to time. People humanize their pets, so when there's documented cruelty, it makes the offender not immature, but rather inhuman. There's no rational basis for that especially in the world we live in. Missed that We can only hope he does make good on his promises. If he were smart, he'd make a public effort to spare more pets from needless exploitation outside the court imposed community service. The oddest thing about this country is that you can take a negative and bounce it into a positive with some effort. Instead, most people try to create the most distance away from their disgrace.
If this happens in china would the people there care as much as they do here??? They eat dog over there... Vick should get less than 1 year in prison...People have done worse things and have gotten off easier...
It's not just dogfighting that he is charged with but that is the main aspect people are focusing on.
