Kind of interesting, never has a 7th round pick made so much money for a team in just two days! Manziel is obviously number 1 and then Sam, followed by Clowney. http://www.outsports.com/2014/5/12/5709578/michael-sam-jerseys-selling-nfl-rookies
Why is Jackie Robinson's jersey number important? Why does the league have a Robinson day where all the players where is number?
REEKO_HTOWN, you're comparing being black and segregated into "black leagues" and not the Major Leagues to... what, exactly?
Crazy World, I'm surprised it's not #1. I bet they can't keep one on the shelves anywhere near Montrose or West Hollywood, not to mention the whole city of San Francisco.
I thought you lived in California... too inconspicuous? You probably DID but didn't know it. There's a lot of people from Guadalajara over there.
Wasn't Jackie the first black man to play in MLB? Is Sam the first gay player? Not even close Not to mention Jackie was a great player. People are buying Sam's jersey bc he is gay. It's funny when Collins jersey was a big seller for a week in the NBA. Dude is a stiff, but hey, he's gay, let me buy his jersey.
Yes. Sam is the first openly out player and Jackie wasn't the first Black player to play in the MLB either.
That's why I put a question mark, I was not sure. There has been plenty of gays that have played football.
But you know that they haven't been open about it from Day One. That's why this is important. Yes, you can point to the story about the early 1990s Oilers teams having openly gay teammates, but the public and media didn't know. What makes Sam unique is that everybody - coaches, teammates, fans, media and management - know he is gay from the outset.
Yes and people are buying his jersey bc he is gay. Public and media don't need to know anyways. What Sam does is his own personal business. I hate when TMZ and media overblow everything.
Overexposure is not doing this kid any favors. Leave him alone and let him prove himself on the field. That's all that matters here. Not because he's gay. The NFL has never had anything against gays as far as I know.
