The last poll I saw of college kids was that about 33% had tried it once. I have no idea how many of those continue to use. I've never seen any stats related to OJ drinking.
Let's see. . .do that . . .and keep making millions. . or not I think I would trade places with him I mean . .goodness that sucks so hard. . to have to apologize for basically breaking the law in order to continue to make millions LMAO Rocket River
Speaking of the US, mar1juana, and the Olympics... minute 1.23 <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jV2HXUd9eP4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jV2HXUd9eP4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Hmmm, that seems very low. Id say that at least 95% of all my friends have smoked it at one point or another...I also gathered my friends from well respected places, not the streets... I went to Second Baptist High School in Houston, Washington University for college, and Boston U. for grad school. Id say at least 80% of my grad school class has smoked pot, whether it was a one time thing or not. Heck, in college, out of the 100 or so people that I regularly saw and hung out with, I was easily the only one that had never smoked weed...and the majority of them ended up going to medical school or law school. Weed is all around us and a lot of people smoke it. At least once.
The number is legit. 38% in 2007. http://www.cdc.gov/HealthyYouth/yrbs/pdf/yrbs07_us_drug_use_trend.pdf The number that shocked me is the 19.7% current users. 20% of the people do something and accept it being illegal.
i'll be 30 in less than 2 mths, went to UT and have never smoked anything, including a cigeratte. of course, if i wanted to, i very easily could have with some friends but i never bothered. i actually know quite a few ppl that have never even tried it.
First of all how are they basing that chart? Are they taking random questionnaires of Kids and asking them to be super honest and fill it out? HA! Please... It's not like every kid in America is getting tested for drugs so that chart and numbers is a buncha bull. Second of all did you read the fine print? I don't think you did. Let's pretend those numbers were accurate just for kicks. Since you think 38% is high; I'm sorry to tell you but you're going to be shocked that those were only for kids 9-12th grade. "The national Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) monitors priority health risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death, disability, and social problems among youth and adults in the United States. The national YRBS is conducted every two years during the spring semester and provides data representative of 9th through 12th grade students in public and private schools throughout the United States." Okay, so what does that mean? That hypothetical 38% is just for kids that are ACTUALLY in school. Not dropouts, not kids who smoked weed before reaching 9th grade but most importantly it's leaving out COLLEGE KIDS. I know I'm leaving out some other important factors that would affect the statistics but do you know how many people I knew in HS that were total squares, straight edge, anti-drug what have you that went to college and tried smoking weed? It's an incredible number. Some of them got so deep into it that they never graduated and dropped out or moved onto more serious drugs, ended up in jail/still are or deceased but that's another story. I'm sure other people on this board can tell you similar stories because it's reality. The bottom line is the number is most certainly higher than 38% BY FAR and the number of people who currently use is definitely higher than 19% Imo.
As a role model to everyone, I think he was right apologize even without the risk of losing endorsements. It's not a big deal to me, but it's a big deal to other people, and those other people could be his biggest fans. The public is very forgiving and coming clean might be the best way for him to handle this. The whole situation with the tabloid is more disturbing than the incident itself.
Our last 3 presidents, our richest man, and now our best olympian are all confirmed pot smokers. yet it is still illegal lol. GO USA.
Meh I don't have a problem with it. But when a picture of a certain football player came up that "thug" word was thrown around like crazy.
The swimming and burning calories wasn't the reason for the huge meals. It is because he had the munchies every morning... To show up at a party and take over the bong just points to the fact that he wasn't a novice and didn't really care who saw him. Dude you were/are a celebrity and anytime you do something out of character, people are going to take pictures just to say yes it happened and yes, I was there...
I'm not claiming to know what % of your average teen / young adult has used mar1juana, but this thread seems to disprove the "98%" or "everybody does it" theory. It becomes hard to track people's responses because the thread quickly turns into an argument, but for what it's worth, 7 of the first 11 responses say "no". Many responses throughout the thread are not only "no" but express an overall strong distaste for drug use, so I don't think it's too much to assume that their circle of friends is not comprised of users either. Again, I'm not offering this as some scientific study. I know it's a small sample. I'm just saying...declaring that "everybody does it" is clearly an embellishment.
He's young, tried it, I can't fault him for that...but since he's a role model, etc, probably should have used better judgement...however, there are plenty of "role Models" that do stupid ***** so you can't be too hung up on what he did...he'll still kick ass in the next olympics and this will hardly be mentioned...
