See, this is where we differ. I don't think Moore had a hypothesis at all. He tried to show things he thought the NRA did that were crummy, yes. The movie seemed to be a scattershot attempt to show as much "can you believe this crap?" material as possible. Personally and politically motivated at many times. However, the end result of the film is still a giant question mark, "why do we have a gun problem in this country?"
Well I wish he also focused on the inner-city problems, gang violence, etc. which contribute heavily to our "gun culture" - and how those inner-city problems seem to have spiked lately (talking decades here). I'm not sure if we had a "gun problem" 50 years ago and forget if Moore provided any analysis of the past (which always looks better the farther away it is).
Ummm...because they were made by the same guy who displayed a tendency to be full of crap? Yeah. That's a good reason. Iraq should have never happened, but Congress did vote to give the authority to be there, so it isn't like he ignored the Constitution. Again, more half truths. Yeah it does. If you had the first clue about what I was talking about, you'd know that. Bill Clinton signed into law changes to the regulation from CRA loans that made it easier to make the risky loans. He also greatly decreased the capital requirements for Fannie and Freddie. Bush then came in and made more crazy changes. Both Presidents stood at a podium and ballyhooed how this is such a great thing because more people would be able to buy a home that had not been able to do so before. Turns out, it was Fool's Gold. Do some research before you bring up strawmen like BJs in the Oval Office. This is not about that. Crap mortgages that started being handed out like party favors in the mid to late 1990s...you know...when Clinton was in office. Bush made more changes, and EVERYBODY got a loan. Actually, I had clients that could not afford one house, but they got mortgages on THREE (so they could have an investment). I prefer the more accurate terms of "schill" and "attention w****." At least you admit it is ridiculous. There is hope after all.
There is an argument to be made of him perjuring himself. The evidence that convinced Congress to sign off on this war was manufactured.
I really didn't get that from the movie. What I got from it is the culture of why we have guns. The whole culture of having guns to protect ourselves is really silly. You have to ask yourself, who are we protecting ourselves from? 90 % of crimes happen with people we already know. This means they catch us off guard because they know our patterns and how we do things. Actually I think the best way to protect yourself is to be smarter choosing our acquaintances and never eliminate the possibility of someone able to hurt us.
?? 50 years ago? Every family member I have from the 2 generations before me purchased and owns guns. Heck, you could purchase surplus firearms from the government for dirt cheap, they almost gave them away. I don't think it was very hard to get a gun 50 years ago.
