I've seen an interview with the bank teller who repudiated that story. Saw him on the "List" where he accused slander at the hostess who questioned the story. The whole thing was pretty much staged. I do know some things about him. I've seen Roger and Bowling and Manufacturing Dissent. I can't really stomach to watch his stuff after what he did to Charlton Heston. A real classless thing to do in my book. You really think he's just "middle class for a few years"? I have no problems with him being rich but he did make his money in a free-market system. He can make all the films he wants and make as much $$ as he wants. I have no problem with that I never called him greedy. Just one-sided. Maybe he has a more balanced approach these days. If that is the case, I could give the recent movie a try.
No sir. Are there flying lions or magic lances or what-have-you? Just kidding -- I'll take your recommendation seriously.
Did you know Louisiana, Alabama, Alaska, Mississippi, and Nevada were the top 5 states in gun deaths per capita?
no..it's clever, though. you may not like it...it's very pointed. it's not required reading if you haven't already read something by N.T. Wright or "Velvet Elvis" by Rob Bell. those are your first assignments, professor. by the way...the what-have-you was far and away the funniest part of that post. i need to say what-have-you more
this is me acting offended and suggesting that website is a huge strawman. i'd suggest another thread, but i think we've all seen that rodeo here a million times before. but see...i did take the bait!!!
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/race.htm http://www.statemaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir-death-rate-per-100-000 Do you think Moore could have at least acknowledged the DOJ statistics? To completely ignore them is a disservice and does not help. My biggest problem is that he pretty much blamed the whole gun-homicides on white NRA types in that movie while ignoring other problems.
I heard that at the end of this film a caption comes that says Obama's largest campaign contributor was Goldman Sachs. Can someone confirm if this was in the movie? (I saw that GS was the 2nd largest contributor.)
Objectivity? The man has repeatedly gone in to production with a message in mind, and twisted facts to support his thoughts. He's not an objective documentary maker at all...he's an editorialist..one of the worst kind that uses propagandic techniques. Cherrypicking facts, editing peoples sentences, adding graphics to political ads that were never in the originals. Much of his work reminds me of the old Monty Python gag...witches float...ducks float..so therefore a duck is a witch. Leave out pertinent facts and let the audience make the conclusion you want them to make. There are many, many websites that will show you what was NOT put in his films. Remember, many democrats even called Farhenheit 911 a film full of lies and half-truths. Here is a good website that lists the 59 deciets of Fahrenheit 911. There are many more out there as well as some on Sicko, Bowling, etc.. http://www.davekopel.com/Terror/Fiftysix-Deceits-In-Fahrenheit-911.htm
You're dead to me. Seriously, take MadMax's suggestion and read The Screwtape Letters. Then read The Four Loves. Then get back to me on this.
When I heard about this film I got all excited to be jumping on the Moore bandwagon. until I heard that his conclusion was capitalism is evil. Really? REAAALLY? A system of buying and selling things at prices is evil? If he said greed, maybe I can get onboard with that.
I really dislike Micheal Moore. Can't really tell why. I just do. I agree with him most of the time...but I really dislike his methods. I also think he's wrong this time. I think capitalism, in a liberal democracy, has the greatest potential for good. Of course, greed can turn it into a system of great evil but I don't know if we as consumers have realized the power we can have in this system. The entire scheme is built on maintaining a class of compliant consumers. If these same consumers demand certain things (for example, with the advent of the socially responsible marketing orientation, a catering to a demand for social justice and sustainable development), then those certain things will most likely come to pass. Good things have been happening, we just have to make sure that corporations never get too out of hand with lax regulation. Capitalism is the one system we have right now with enough balance of power for this to work out. I think it's really the best shot we have right now of fixing things up, as long as we use it responsibly and stop wasting so many resources.
