It doesn't work in our system. Winner-take-all of presidency optimizes for biggest, most powerful party. Works much better in a parliamentary system.

If there were three or four parties this election then Trump wins again

No base bigger than the fascist base

Dems are all under one umbrella but if you split it up to reflect it's true diversity of thought, it would have been a big L.

Freakanomics podcast episode 36 put out a good idea of how it could be done, but why we live in a Duopoly. Both parties will never want to reliquench that power and even if a third party was started by a certain impeached president, without Super-Pac support best case scenario it would be like the Reform Party with Ross Perot. That would hurt Republicans even more so it's a lose/lose situation for staunch Republicans that border more hardline views.

If there were three or four parties Trump wouldn't have won the election in 2016 to begin with.

The Republican Party must go. Yes it is time to start a new party. Those traitors are Democrats at this point.

Calling your political opponent a nazi. Real original.

This is a common tactic of the left to direct violence at someone. A very fascistic tactic actually. Are you some kind of Antifa supporter?

We're stuck in a chicken and egg situation.

We need a third party to rewrite the election rules... So that a third party can be viable.

Republicans will never do this, and Democrats will only do it if they are tricked into doing it.

Personally I'd be willing to vote for just about anyone if it meant the promise of permanently breaking the duopoly.

Until we do that we will continue to circle the toilet. The road we are on ends in ruin.

Not that you deserve to be taken seriously, but I'm guessing these dipshits probably have no plan or ability to end the systemic duopoly so no thanks.

Your lack of concern about this the past 4 years is speaking quite loudly right now.

250 years of the winner-take-all 2 party system that's hard coded into the constitution means that...it's not really ever time for new parties

The system is not that broken. People need to stop bitching and whining when their team loses and instead get off their lazy asses and do something productive.

You either break the constitution and instill something that will be worse....which seems to be what many people are advocating for.

Or end the top down approach to political funding. Cash should not be allowed to cross state lines within each party system. If cash is raised in Texas, it can only go to Texas politicians. Corporations should not be allowed to contribute to any other state other than the one they are incorporated in.
Once the primaries are over then its fair game, but only for the Presidency.
What happened in the GA senate runoff is the exact problem we have in our political system.

It is possible. A huge grassroot panamerican effort. If a 3rd party comes out of nowhere and bites a huge part of one of the duopoly then just to be able to survive they will support a change to the system.
The other side will only be inspired to be split up too. It's not like both of these behemoths don't include political movements that are at odds with each other in most things.
It's not probable but it is possible.

Third parties just also suck at gaining and using power..... How about the Green or Libertarian Party wins some congressional districts... or governorship of a small state.... or maybe a senate seat or two... or mayor of a medium sized city?

Every 4 years they waste time and resources running for president.... just skip all that until you have some congressional seats.
