I don't like Jordan, but good for him for doing this. There's a program in the neighborhood where I live that just started called coffee with a cop. There are no speeches or agendas. Folks can just go meet officers, and ask them questions.

I like these kinds of things.

These are a waste of time. We are better served when our commander in chief gets up on TV and calls for the end of racial violence on blacks. (yes, this is sarcasm)

As you can see, one of these strategies unites. The other divides.

Start a program that teaches people how to follow basic instructions and it would go a long way towards preventing traffic tickets from turning into arrests. I'm not sure how much it would cost, but it would be worth it.

Especially when they only focus on half the message from the commander in chief and ignore that he also said this.

Good to see Jordan show some civic engagement for once.

Good for Jordan. It is not a huge sum compared to his wealth, but it is a lot of money, and it makes a statement.

You can't be sure of that with his well known gambling addiction.

Son of a crap I was bested in the previous post.

Hmm... well known athlete puts his own rep and significant dollars into a positive approach to a difficult problem, and some people here can't resist complaining about the President and others complain about the athlete's income and past.

    SMH...

I applaud Michael Jordan for his generous donation and sensible approach to finding middle ground on an important issue.

Agreed. If we could teach cops to better follow the basic instructions from their training, these incidents would be dramatically less.

Better training for cops would help too, but all too often it's really stupid civilians that refuse to follow simple instructions that cause a basic traffic ticket to turn into a big ordeal. There's probably nothing you can do about the general stupidity of the masses, but if you could teach them how to follow basic instructions, there would be a lot less incidents with police.

In fact, it's pretty hard to point to an incident with police where the civilian was complying with police instructions or the civilian didn't try to run or attack the cop. I'm sure we could find a case like that if we looked hard enough, but if those were the only police incidents, we'd barely notice.

    Stop blaming victims.

The police are the professionals. We need them to behave as such (and they usually do).
