And why is this shocking? A 65 year old heavy smoker is exactly the sort of person who would get throat cancer.

^ It's not shocking. :( I just wished Catherine Zeta Jones would STOP picking up his bad habits.
It's sort of mean to say that, but... I see what you did there. :(

Do you mean to say that you think he will "miraculously get rid of it" after the movie earns millions of dollars because he is gathering attention this way?

You should really let him no that you won't regret his passing, I'm sure it will really ease his troubles.

    Thanks everybody

My mom had a cancer that spread to her liver (and formed other tumors in her body). Non-smoker. Survived breast cancer from many years ago. With her recent cancer, she was gone within 6 months of her diagnosis.

I've been spending quite a few weekends going to San Marcos and helping my dad out since he's alone now. He's fighting bladder cancer and pre-cancerous throat stuff, but it looks like he's responding well to his treatments and he's beating the cancer. I also skype every other day so that he can see the grandkids jump around like monkeys.

whatcha gonna do? All our lives are different stories with the same ending.

I don't understand either why people care about the personal lives of celebrities. However, if Michael Douglas is not able to make films any more, I understand why that would be of interest to those who like his movies.

Don't forget, bro: Mom and Dad were smokers, though Mom did quit over 20 years ago. Dad quit much later (truth be told: I think maybe he still sneaks one now and then).

The moral of the story, kids: don't smoke. One way or another, it will negatively affect your life.

Not really sure how or why he said 80% when its in stage 4. Of course, we dont know exactly where in the throat the cancer is (pharynx, larynx, vocal cords, etc...) so its too hard for us to make any sort of determination.

However, in general, throat cancers in Stage 4 have less than a 50% survival rate for 5 years. Which, in comparison to other cancers, is actually not bad.

Yeah, but mom hasn't smoked in over 20 years and there's no way that it was a contributor to her fatal cancer.

Dad used to sneak a cigarette but I don't think he does any more.
