Travels had a pretty large influence on me during my early high school years. He will be missed. RIP.
Well, I'm going to go reread a couple of his books. If you look at his copyright dates, its sometimes surprising how long his career actually was and how prolific his books are. Very entertaining and his medical novels are very good. He had actually gone to medical school before he decided to be a writer, so its one reason ER was so good, I believe.
Probably my favorite author. Very sad news. My ranking of the Crichton books (only the ones I've read): Sphere > Jurassic Park > Rising Sun > Timeline > Congo > Prey > The Lost World > A Case of Need > State of Fear > Disclosure > The Andromeda Strain > Airframe > Next
Damn this sucks. His books, Jurassic Park in particular, got me into recreational reading as well. Sphere was my all time favorite novel for a while after I read it. Most of the movies that were based on his books weren't that great, but I did enjoy Jurassic Park, Disclosure and Andromeda Strain. RIP, Mr. Crichton.
God Creates Dinosaurs, God Destroys Dinosaurs, God creates Man, Man Creates Dinosaurs, Man Kills God, Dinosaurs Kill Man, Women Inherit the earth
I can't believe how much of this guys contributions to pop culture I have taken in over the years. Read the books and saw the movie adaptations to: Jurassic Park, Lost World, Congo, Rising Sun, Sphere, Disclosure, Timeline, Eaters of the Dead/aka The 13th Warrior. Books: Terminal Man and the Great Train Robbery. Movies: Westworld and Twister.
Borders book store sent a "Remembering Michael Crichton" email with listings of his books: http://www.borders.com/online/store/ListView_crichton?cmpid=SL_20081106_REW R.I.P.
The book equivalent of all those places pimping Heath Ledger's movies when he died. Makes me sick when people use others' tragedy for personal gain.
