It doesn't matter. He is so far behind, and he doesn't know the plays or assignments, etc. He'll have close to zero impact the rest of the year.

either way i think the niners will win taht game. gore will run all over the texans. niner defense will force the offense into mistakes. niners SHOULD win that game.

not really his fault, just one of the worst draft choices ever made. it was a bad draft for qb's too (aaron rodgers is pretty good now, but back then smith might have been rated higher).....A guy who never took a snap under center might not make the transition to a pro-style offense. alex smith is the reason why people like graham harrel will never get a shot in the nfl

I don't figure he'll do much. He is starting with a quarter of the season already gone and the 49ers are a run first team by far.

i don't think his teammates will "not care". There will be some resentment, especially from veterans who played for much less before getting their big pay day.

Say "it's business" all you want, but it was stupid business on his part and when it comes to team comradery he will definitely have to prove himself to a lot of guys in that locker room.

And to say singletary knows it's business...singletary will be on him pretty hard i'd imagine. He isnt the one to take selfish acts like he did lightly. I mean, this is the coach who dropped trow during his halftime speech to let his players know what he thought of them.

Disagree. Singletary will judge him on the way he conducts himself form here on out. will he bring his ego through the door? if so, yeah mike will bench him.

Singletary was able to set VD straight after sending him to the showers early. This year he's team captain. I heard an interview few weeks ago (also in sports illustrated last week), and he has nothing but good things to say about vernon davis now, and EVERYONE on that team respects singletary....If crabs can play under singletary's rule of togetherness and winning football, he'll be okay.

right. Mike was hard on VD and that got him motivated. He will be just as hard and demanding on Crabtree. That's my point.

Yeah, every time Crabtree tried to sign Hammer said, "Can't touch this".

Btw - on paper Crabtree has one of the greatest financial teams ever put together -- it reads like a who's who of Wall Street.

About time...I never thought he'd sit out but the learning curve will be steep and not sure how much of an impact he'll be...I hope I'm wrong, but to sit out this long was insane...

I don't understand why WR have such large learning curves. They just need to know their routes and I don't know if the 49ers run a real complicated offense. I doubt it was more complicated than what leech ran. It isn't like a QB or OL.

Exactly - this season is pretty much a wasted one for him. What an idiot to wait this late to sign.

I would tend to agree as he isn't learning the QB position, however, he and the QB need to be on the same page and have timing...It's practice, game speed, routine, etc...

Well I think it not only has to do with timing and getting in sync with the QB but also that NFL defenses are, IIRC, commonly known to be very complicated type defenses. For a rookie coming in, especially one as late as Crabtree is coming into, that can be very imposing.
