So Cohen is committing perjury in order to get a lighter sentence for the prison term that he's going to be serving partially because he committed perjury?

Please do us all a favor and think before you post.

Great strategy by the Republicans yesterday:

Republicans - "so, you lied to congress, correct?"

Cohen - "yes, I lied to congress at the behest of, and to protect, Donald J. Trump. And by the way, everyone already knows this."

Republicans - "ah HAAA! So you DID lie to congress!! Boom....ROASTED."

We know Trump is a liar, cheater and a fraud but it's worth it to get tax cuts for the rich, build a vanity wall, deny climate change, put an unqualified judge on the Supreme Court and maybe overturn 60 years of precedent in Roe V. Wade.

How that for a campaign stance?

This is the kind of crap that pisses me off. Why couldn't this rep go on record? Unless you go on record, you're not doing anything to fix the problem. You're making it worse, you gutless POS. People like you ARE the problem.

This is why I'm not a Republican anymore. Why can't we...well, not me per se, I supported Kasich...but why can't they just admit they made a mistake and fix it? For the good of their own party, stop doubling down on stupid. Cut bait and move to a different spot, for **** sake.

All of my Republican friends and family still support Trump and I just don't get it. It's okay to admit you made a mistake.

What has happened to the GOP? I'm telling you, this all started with McCain choosing Palin. He knew is was a mistake, but he did it anyway and It's been downhill ever since.

He still want to get reelected, if he goes on record against Trump, there is a very good chance he will be defeated in primary. Take a look at the current GOP base, it is not a rational group of people.

Senator Lindsey Graham Warns Of Possible GOP ‘War’ Over Trump’s Wall
But he threatened Republicans: “If you don’t stand behind this president, we’re not going to stand by you.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) warned at a political gathering in his home state Monday that there “could be a war within the Republican Party” over President Donald Trump’s border wall.

But he also threatened those who turn their backs on the president.

His “war” remarks to reporters at the First Monday GOP club in Greenville apparently referred to the possible reaction if Trump declares a national emergency to get his wall built.

“It seems to me that [Trump] is going to have to go it alone,” conceded Graham, who said he “isn’t very optimistic” legislators will work out a funding deal.

In Greenville, @LindseyGrahamSC says he’s “not very optimistic” about the odds of a wall funding deal with Democrats.

“It seems to me that (Trump) is going to have to go it alone. But there could be a war within the Republican Party over the wall...” #scpol

Graham said later to the audience that he would “stand with” Trump if he declares a national emergency — and he called on all Republicans to do so as well.

“To every Republican: If you don’t stand behind this president, we’re not going to stand behind you when it comes to the wall,” Graham said. “This is the defining moment of his presidency. It’s not just about a wall. It’s about him being treated differently than every other president.”

It’s not just about a wall. It’s about him being treated differently than every other president.Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)

The current temporary funding package to keep the government operating expires Feb. 15.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is reportedly also concerned about dissension in GOP ranks. He privately warned Trump on Friday that declaring an emergency could trigger a GOP revolt and a congressional resolution against the declaration, The Washington Post reported.

Some Republicans are already breaking ranks. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida said that an emergency declaration was a “terrible idea” and that he would oppose it.

Sen. John Cornyn of Texas said last month that to “give the president authority” to decide on the wall “all by himself would ... stretch constitutional boundaries.”

I'm not a trump guy at all but I'd put a reasonable sum of money on him getting a second term

If telling the truth is your standard, your sand in the line, then your president has mocked and destroyed that line his entire life.

Agreed and it's thanks to social media and the media along with the far far left getting way too much attention. The days of strong, bold, charming moderates from either party seem long gone.

It goes back a tad bit further than 2008.

There are almost no adults left in the room for the Republican party. Just thugs, useful idiots, and red-faced zealots.

This Cohen testimony wasn't particularly revelatory, but I think it has been a nice shot in the arm for a good Never Trumper like me. Just the kind of impeachment pron I like. Probably a lot of liberals had a little extra bounce in their step last night. :) It's funny because I didn't watch it and mostly followed it thru this thread and the evening news. But, somehow I was plagued by Michael Cohen dreams last night. I woke up and said "why the hell am I dreaming about Michael Cohen? I usually dream about naked... Marge." Then I went to sleep and dreamt about him some more. Must be that Trump Derangement Syndrome. I've got it bad.

So, I've caught up with the thread and following are responses to ideas that the river of the conversation has long since swept past. Feel free to skip.

He did a great job yesterday turning the screws on Trump. Let's watch and see if any recommendation to reduce his sentence is made.

He's deserved every minute of it.

Yup, not very compelling and yet for some reason much of the country watched it with rapt attention. Challenger, Gray & Christmas estimated $3.8 billion in lost productivity. Obviously everyone thought it was a big nothing berder.

Doubt Cohen needed their help; he probably knows the material better than they do. But, I'm not sure what "prepping" you're afraid they could have done. Are you insinuating they gave him lies to tell under oath?

In any case, don't make out like Cohen is now some hero of Democrats. He's already been consigned to the trash heap because he's a terrible person who committed serious crimes to benefit his crooked client. He's going to prison as he should. I'm glad he found the moral fiber to come clean after he got caught, but he's still not a hero. He is making amends; he's now owed anything.

Yeah, I heard this idea in coverage yesterday -- "Why aren't Republicans defending Trump on the merits of the accusations?" One, ridiculous that an oversight body should spend their time defending the office they are overseeing. But, more importantly, what could they possibly say? Character assassination was the only tool they had, and even that one had a broken handle.

@ipaman makes a very good point. Your questions about the honesty of trump's long-time personal lawyer and "fixer", who was important enough to trump for trump to trust him to handle "fixing" many of trump's illegal and unethical dealings, and who btw was also the deputy chairman of finance the republican national committee, only make trump look worse.
