I should clarify with a huge asterisk by saying when healthy, which I did previously in this same thread when I compared their numbers. Obviously I understand the health risk and if people want to complain about that then I understand.
I just don’t think we will ever see that Reddick again but perhaps he’ll get back on track, it’s not like he’s over the hill. His ABs last year were awful compared to 2017, I want to believe confidence has a huge part in that as he struggled mightily in the 2017 playoffs and then made comments afterwards that his teammates carried him but he was looking forward to redeeming himself. That clearly didn’t happen.
I understand the Astros Facebook page isn’t exactly the best place to find proper debates, but what is the love fest of people thinking Jake can have a great year if given a seasons worth of playing time? He’s absolutely amazing at his role right now. Late game defense, and spot starts. Why fix something that’s not broken? Also, quick question. With Brantley’s health history, do y’all think he’ll just DH and leave red duck in right? What if someone else starts hitting extremely well (White etc), do you think they’d be willing to just sit reddick?
Man, our outfield is in such a beautiful position moving forward. Everyone is stressing about 2 years from now like the world is going to collapse. Chill out, my god. First and foremost, enjoy the now. This looks like our best outfield ever (honestly, what's the 2nd best OF?). Does no one on this board take solace in that? And we're not dead from a depth perspective in 3ish years, even across all positions. - Springer, Brantley, Reddick - Marinick, Kemp, Tucker - Fisher, Straw, Alvarez - Beer, McKenna, Dawson, Matijevic That looks pretty healthy to me. Like, what more do you want JL to do (outside of signing Harper, Cruz, and trading for Greinke, Kluber and Realmuto)? Bravo. I honestly believe we'll be able to extend everyone who we need to extend. Not want to extent, but need. We don't need to extend DK or Marwin (as much as it pains me to see them in other uniforms). We'll extend our core, and I believe that'll start with Springer and JV (with Cole being a luxury we can't afford). Those we can't afford will either be replaced internally or reasonably. Regardless, my god we are set up so well moving forward.
1998 and 2000 had crazy monster outfields, Moises Alou is my favorite hitter ever. My Dad would want me to bring up Cesar Cedeno, so 1972 looks like a lot of fun with Wynn/Cedeno/Watson putting up crazy numbers. I think the current outfield is somewhere after those.
Berkman / Beltran / Biggio was pretty good in 2004 with 0.800, 0.900, and 1.000 OPS hitters. 2003 featured a 0.900+ OPS Hidalgo instead of Beltran. 2001 had Berkman, Alou, and Hidalgo, also with 0.800, 0.900, and 1.000 OPS hitters. 2000 had the same trio, but with a 0.900, and two 1.000 OPS hitters, plus an 0.800 OPS Daryle Ward as the 4th outfielder.
Watson, Wynn and Cedeno had to be the best given the era, and ballpark they did it in. Probably put the 98 group 2nd and 2000 group 3rd. The 04 group we had in the postseason might be the best, but it was only together for a partial season.
