As much as I would like to be upset by this, I think anyone that goes back and watches the original TMNT movies will realize there was never that much there to ruin. We enjoyed them as kids because we were kids and it was ninja turtles on the big screen (and it had Vanilla Ice). But most of the first two movies are **** and ALL of the third movie was ****.
MICHAEL BAY, YEEEEESSSSS. Only guy that can pull this off, he made legendary, quality movies. Can't wait for the huge azz explosions that he will somehow include in the plot. Maybe give them grenade throwers and rocket launchers instead of katanas. Or make them Transformer Turtles with automatic weapons and ****...if they all unite they form one super transformer that will look totally awesome. He will probably have a Sexy Turtle girl played by Megan Fox or that Rosie chick from Transformers 3 to make it more Bay-tastic. They could fight over who gets the girl and it will be sooooo funny. They'll have competitions to impress her, "Who can eat most pizza slices in five minutes" etc. Turtles will drive in Dodge Chargers or somethin hot like that, each in the respective colour of the turtle. Make a hot highway scene where they get chased, of course with HUUUUGE EXPLOSIONS AND FIRE ROAAARRRR. He will probably have a 200mil budget to make this movie in the best Michael Bay manner that we all love so much. Plus it will be in 3D!!! Can't wait, this will be a must watch.
Agreed completely. I watched the first one on HBO a couple weeks back and it just isn't that good. I think the turtle suits for the time were pretty solid however. Splinter looked like **** though.
The old movies being crap doesn't mean you go and change up the entire backstory. The old Batman movies were crap too but that doesn't mean you make Bruce Wayne a time traveling alien from Alpha Centauri.
Personally, I've stopped caring about these things ever since I stopped going to the movies. They can make the movie into whatever the hell they want. But I must say the idea that they're making them aliens is beyond stupid.
This is actually a good thing to be honest... I've never read the comics but seen all the movies even the animation one and they just was missing something that needed that spark to make it from campy to awesome...
Changing the turtles into aliens is beyond stupid. Why the hell would he change the most critical detail of a franchise and call it the same thing? Call it Alien Ninjas. That's like making the 3 Musketeers, but there's actually 5 in this one. And they're not really the king's musketeers, but rather romantic poets... but still call it the 3 Musketeers. This is as stupid as Will Smith's project for his little son called the Karate Kid. Except nothing to do with Karate, nor Japan (in which karate originated from). What's next? A Christmas Carroll about Ramadan?
Seriously I don't give a damn what's their intention to do with the TMNT. All I care about is a half decent story with great actions. This is one of that movie where I can sit back and enjoy the ride. This looks like it's going to be a large budget movie and I'm pretty sure they are going Avatar style TMNT alone with the live actors.

The one that i liked was the cartoon version they made in mid 2000's. I remember a movie was made as well that looked good as well. I don't have hopes for this at all.
I thought the recent CG film was pretty good...nothing particularly special but I liked the darker tone. If he followed that route but made it a bit more epic and engaging, I think you'd have a good movie. No need to change where they came from...I'm getting tired of all these origin stories anyways.
It was ****ty back then, especially the second one; TMNT was just the best-marketed kids' concept of the late '80s and early '90s, or at least tied for first with the Simpsons. GI Joe and Transformers are great movie franchises now, but only because they're not being straight-jacketed and repeatedly revamped to accomodate new toy characters like the original TV shows were.
I wonder if the strategy for these reboots should change in Hollywood. Instead of reusing the same formula targeting a younger age demographic, they should mature rebooted franchises like TMNT according to the current age of the original age demographic in the franchise's most successful years when they were watched by kids. 8 year olds that loved the kiddy cartoon TMNT in the 80's/90's are about 28 now. Why not evolve the franchise to be more in line with the dark direction of the comics? Let Raph stab someone made of flesh with his Sai. Let Leo cut off a foot soldier's head. Let Mikey use his nunchucks for more than just a way to glide down a rope or a thing to spin around. Let Don just go to town on someone's knee cap with his bo. I loved the cartoons as a kid, and as nostalgia, I like them today. I would be very interested in watching a gore-included movie and portrayal of the original content of the Ninja Turtles. This is a far cry from what Michael Bay is trying to do. It's like he's doing a kid version of the movie Alien. He'll probably manage a way to destroy that franchise as well from this Aliens movie.
