That guy's analysis is already wrong for one reason: Under the cap, you lose the MLE. There is no way to outright sign Payton, Kandi, and PJ Brown for those figures, as he has PJ coming in under the mid-cap exception. They can possibly get two players that way, but not three. And if Denver offers Kandi $7m-max as may be expected, Miami won't get Kandi at only $5.5m. One last thing: Indiana won't lose O'Neal and Miller (and Reggie, for another) without making the Brandon trade. It would help their cap and tax situation now and down the road, yes, but it's nothing that would keep them from re-signing their players this offseason.
I know Riley likes big guys and really wants Payton also, but if he were smart for once, he'd go after Odom and force Clipps to match 8mill a yr. After that, he should try to jettison Eddie Jones to toronto for Antonio Davis. The 3mill they would have left and the 4.9 mle could be split among a couple of low end players. Picture this lineup in the east. Odom Wade Butler Davis Grant On offense, Odom runs the pg spot and defends the 3 man while Wade defends the pg and Butler the 2. Grant and Davis gives them 2 physical low post defenders. The thing is that in 2 yrs with Davis off the books, they'll have some flexibility again. This will not make a championship team, but it will make enough to get into the playoffs which is what Riley wants so bad. WTF was Carter thinking?
Me, I think this makes Miami a contender for major trades. 11 million. Da-yumn. Francis for Caron Butler? Sorry. Sorry.
Something seems fishy about this. With the way he played this year, I would have excercised the option mid-season. Someone check the Heat's payroll register. I think Bill Duffy or Anthony Carter may be on it.
Riley and tony Soprano and Pauli paid Carter a little visit Made him an offer he could not refure Rocket River
Maybe he woke up with a horse's head in his bed? I can hear the mandolin now! LOL Really, so what do you think guys, Carter's fault or Duffy's? I think it was Carter's because his career is ultimately his responsibility. But can anyone be that dumb to miss out on a call for 4 million dollars? I would've called the first day possible to say, in the words of Cuba Gooding Jr., "Show me the money!"
