I agree. His calmness is frankly, almost another level of calm even from Vince. The announcer said it at one point, but it's almost as if you think the play is over, as he's barely even trying. And the way he keeps his eyes on the field is light years ahead of Vince at this point, imo. Conversely, this is the only time I've seen him play and was definitely his best game ever (one time abnormality?), he looks like he could be a great dual threat guy but did no running at all, and his size will be an issue. Also, especially when looking at the replay of the interception returned for a touchdown, even disregarding the fact that he got hit, it wasn't clear where he was going with it. But, it's hard to fault him for one mistake. It was a great game.
i loved his reaction to the end of the game. it was like, "It's the first game of the season. Nothing to celebrate here."
I went to a Miami-FSU game three years ago at the old Orange Bowl -- man, was that an experience. It definitely seemed like a pretty intense rivalry, plus I love how all the Canes fans mock FSU's tomahawk chop by doing the same thing while flipping the bird.
Lets get something straight here. The game was entertaining as hell. But it was a bad game. It was sloppy. I have never seen Miami's defense give up so much open down the field. Defensively both teams are shadows of what they once were. The talent and speed is the same but the discipline and intelligence is nowhere to be found. I guarantee you Harris does nothing against a disciplined defense. I give him credit though pressure just doesn't phase him. But those loft passes all get picked off against Florida.
Great opinion but poor insight. Defenses are still solid. FSU had holes and Miami has a new DC that chose to limit Ponder's running threats. As Bobby Bowden said, both teams had horrendous pass rushing. If you honestly thought this game was sloppy, you are mistaken. The offenses were smooth and effective. If you had seen any of the Miami/FSU games of the past 3 years you would notice that those games were sloppy. Last night's game was incredibly exciting. It's too bad FSU is suddenly unranked. If he catches the ball they're ~16. That's silly they dropped so far. The game in '07 at Doak Campbell was extremely sloppy, but quite exciting. I'm glad I had the opportunity to watch it live. A bit disappointed I missed this one. Biggest difference for The U is Whipple, the new OC. Looking forward to next Thursday versus Ga Tech; will see how they respond from last year's beatdown and poor preparation by former DC Bill Young. Harris is a stud. Even off the field he's one of the most humble individuals you will meet. The U is (on the way) Back!
Sloppy is the wrong word, but both defenses showed glaring holes. They may be able to improve and come together as the season goes on, but if not, I expect to see both teams get blown out by some teams like they did last season.
You are referring to offensive sloppiness of games past. Last night I saw missed tackles, poor choices by the defense (especially Miami's), and horrendous special teams coverage. Cooper tries to make all those dekes against LSU and he would be out for 6 weeks with a broken something or other.
FSU true freshman safety Greg Reid's going to be lining up on Sunday in the near future. He was all over the field for the 'Noles last night. He had a leaping interception, altered one of Jacory Harris' passes, which was intercepted by an FSU defensive lineman and returned for a TD, and he continually stuck his nose in the pile. Bowden and the FSU staff claim that he's already one of the most confident players on the defense. Also, the big WR, Fortson, was impressive. He runs well in space, and was automatic on the short slant routes. Big win for Randy Shannon and a young, talented squad at the U. Miami's running backs, Javarris James (Edgerrin James' cousin) and Greg Cooper, were workhorses.
