Dampier is one of the last people in the NBA I'd want to have a beer with, but the number of 7 footers out there that can avg 7 boards in half a game playing time and also stand behind Dwight Howard and make him work is pretty limited. The number you can get for $2M/yr? Practically nonexistent. I'm all for the signing. Dampier/Miller make for a great plan B.

I'll say this, we could have used him against Gasol or Bynum in the playoffs a couple of seasons ago.

Wait, so this is done now, right? I thought I read that we had already made an offer to him, so if no Miami (and assuming he's not stupid enough to choose the Bucks), he's pretty much def. gonna be a rocket.

Was the offer we made official, or just a rumor?

I think a rumor because i read earlier somewhere that Houston did not make him an offer.

Thats kinda how I see it. You have put up with the aggravation the whole regular season of having an annoying player. But once its the playoffs you don't care about personal feelings, indifference sets in and you just want to WIN and survive on with the guys you have.

Saying "Go DAMPIER!" in November against the Pacers, ugh, brutal ... but if Dampier was on the '07 team in the playoffs putting Carlos Boozer on his ass, you're just out for blood and will enjoy it

Pull the offer and make one to Fes instead.

Why are so many people here being so foolish? Fesenko will be matched and while we wait for Utah to match (which they will) we will not be able to offer Dampier anything and he'll just go to the Bucks.

Jesus guys. He's a low level starter center that can rebound and block shots. For 2 million that is a steal. It's him or Mbenga and I'm not even sure we're interested in Mbenga so I'll say it's either him or Chuck Hayes at that third center spot.
