http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/daily/detail/0,1136,36000000000162107,00.html "Heat hot for Hakeem? According to the Sun Sentinel: Something is brewing. That much Heat coach Pat Riley would not deny. Whether it involves Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon, however, is another story. Word has the Heat aggressively looking into several high-end trades, with one Western exec saying conversations between Miami and Houston regarding Olajuwon were substantive. Riley said Thursday that with several teams looking to unload high-priced talent before next season’s luxury tax, there are plenty of offers being dangled in front of the Heat. “There are two or three things out there,’’ he said. The Heat could easily come up with $8 million by packaging forwards Cedric Ceballos and Dan Majerle. Both Riley and GM Randy Pfund confirmed Heat conversations with Rockets VP Carroll Dawson. Asked about discussions of Olajuwon landing in Miami by the Feb. 22 trading deadline, Pfund said, “That’s not true. We have spoken about a couple of other things.” Olajuwon turns 38 Sunday and has an expiring contract with a $16.5 million tag for this season. That makes any trade complex, especially for the Heat. “I don’t see how we could make the deal.” Riley said, his team positioned to trade for a star in the $10 million range. Its seriously complicated to pull off any deal for Olajuwon, short of including Anthony Mason or drawing a third team into the mix. “It’s not impossible. It’s not likely, and it’s not probable,’’ Dawson said of dealing Olajuwon. “It would be a major problem.” One report out of Houston said the Rockets might waive Olajuwon, and the Heat could sign then him, but the chances of that actually happening seem remote" Mason sounds nice... could play the 3 and his contract is in it´s last year... hmmm. ------------------ "Dream another dream, this dream is over... Damn you, Thanos. I was just about to post this. Everyone, read the article (nbatalk). The Heat have had substantive talks with CD and are "positioned to trade for a player in the 10 million dollar range" as opposed to just taking on Olajuwon. Waiving Dream is also called unlikely. I've thought of this before and this makes me rethink: Olajuwon and either Walt or Cato and draft picks gets us Shareef and Reeves? Except that we trade Reeves to Miami for Majerle, Mason, Ceballos, and waive them? Hey, hell with Mason's bird rights: does it seem likely at all? I gotta go to work. Post well, all ye Rocket fans, and post often! ------------------
I wpould love Majerle on the team just as a tough defensive player and as an older leader. We still need a big body in the trade though. Makes since for Miami, they need a cnter to replace Mourning. With Dream they may have the best team in the east. COuld be a win-win if we can get it to work cap wise or involve a third team and get a big body out of the deal.
If there is an extra big guy for Houston to acquire in this trade, then why doesn't Miami just deal with the other team and not even bother with the Rockets? You know Mango, i don´t have anything against you, but you have to do something about this nasty habit of putting other people down. I see no point in it, and it´s really uncalled for. We are all supposed to be on the same side here. That being said, perhaps they would still deal with us because a "big body" doesn´t necessarily means a C. It could mean Jerome Williams, for instance. And Miami could REALLY want Hakeem, not just a banger per se. Does that strike you as reasoanable, Mr. High and Mighty? Flame on if you want to. "4. I asked a logical question. Brian Grant logs minutes as a 5 for Miami because that is the best that they have. If a suitable/acceptable 4 is out there for Houston to end up with in a trade with Miami, then why doesn't Miami just acquire that player and play him some minutes at the 5 as they do Grant? No flame intended, just trying to look at the deal from the other team's point of view. Mango ------------------ Lets get the Mo Go working! Test Your NBA Trade Ideas 1. If Hakeem goes anywhere I prefer it be to the Miami Heat. With Dream they have a great chance to go to the NBA Finals, have to get by Philly but its possible. After last nights game against Portland, I'm sure they(Miami) wants this to happen as soon as possible. ------------------
What do you wanna bet they were talking about Cato? In regards to Ceballos, I like the fact that he can put up numbers quickly, but I don't know much about his defensive capabilities. Anyone? ------------------ "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." - Gandhi
Is there any way that the rockets and heat could come up with some type of deal where the rockets would waive Olajuwon and the Heat could send us a draft pick for waving him. Of course this depends on olajuwon agreing to go there once waived. Would this type of deal work? ------------------
I don't think anyone knows about Ced's defensive capabilities, Pimp. Considering he's never bother to play defense. Rumor has it that he's got mad waterskiing skills, though. ------------------ "Thirty-seven?" -Randall, Clerks www.clutchtown.com
If anyone is rude in this thread it's Thanos. And as for the topic, still seems unlikely. I'd rather have Hakeem's cap space than Mason and some scrubs. Miami can't put a good deal together to get Hakeem. A three team deal? Maybe, but very unlikely. ------------------ snap crackle pop
Ok, maybe I overreacted a little bit. But you really should lighten up Mango. I suppose the Heat would prefer Hakeem to a 4 that can play the 5 because that would be an edge in the East, considering there are sow few real centers out there. Besides, Hakeem is on the final year of his contract, which makes him even more valuable. NBA TALK: "Hakeem WANTS out! Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon said all the right things about doing what is best for the Rockets when he went public saying he wouldn't hold it against the Rockets if they wanted to trade or waive him. 'I just want what's best for the team,' said Olajuwon on Tuesday. 'I only want to do what's best for everybody, and that's what I said.' However, a source inside the Rockets organization has told NBAtalk that there is much more to it than that. The Dream WANTS to finish his career somewhere else. Olajuwon originally made this statement privately to the Rockets a few months ago, but went public with it after he perceived the Rockets weren't seriously considering moving him. He has no grudges against the Rockets, but he doesn't want to finish his career in rebuilding mode. He's been frustrated with his role and thinks he would have a bigger impact on a team contending for a title. Olajuwon feels that he has enough left in his tank, according to the source, to help a team win an NBA championship. Hakeem has asked the Rockets for a trade, and the Rockets gave his agent permission to shop the Dream around, but understands that it may be impossible for the Rockets to pull off anything given his salary. So the last few days, Olajuwon has been pushing the Rockets to waive him so he can catch on with another team. Said the source, 'Dream expects something to happen. He was hoping for a trade that would give the Rockets some compensation for him. Now he's pushing hard for us to waive him so he can play somewhere else. He's not taking no for an answer.' The Suns and Heat would both be interested in picking up the Dream if he is waived." Looks like it´s only a matter of time now... ------------------ "Dream another dream, this dream is over... Cedric and Mason for Dream? ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
I don't know if anyone has posted this b4 and I am not much good at working up trades, so bear with me. If Miami is looking for a 5 and is willing to spend 10mil..how bout we trade Dream for SAR and Big Landmass..then send BC to Miami? Doesn't he make about 10mil?? then we would have SAR that lots of you have been droolin over and dont have to keep the Big-ass country? Be gentle guys..yall know I dont *normally* get into trade discussions.. ------------------ no sig here
Ceballos is not a particularly good defensive player, average at best. The problem with Ced is, he hasn't logged many minutes in the past season and a half, and I am not sure if he is still capable of putting up the same offensive numbers he did in Dallas. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
Mango, you ask, why doesn't Miami cut out the middle man in the Vancouver-Miami-Houston idea? Reef might be doing to the Grizz what Dream is doing to us. The Grizz need draft picks desperately and want to unload cap. They owe Detroit a #1. I'm not sure if this is correct, but I think Miami has no #1 to trade (there's some rule saying a team can't trade its own #1 so many years in a row; but I'm not 100% on that). ------------------
As an aside, after tonight's game, the Rockets don't play for another four days. Does something happen in that time? Waive or trade? Best respite we'll have. ------------------
Mango is boring as hell (except in chat where he goes topless and dances on tables), but he really said nothing wrong in his post. It's rare he insults anybody except Rockets03, and well, that's just tradition... Thanos, you're jumping on the wrong guy.
