seriously...hakeem retired years ago. that era is over. move along. he rocked casbah. he was the greatest center of my lifetime. among the very greatest to have ever played the game.

the constant defense of that era and those teams is wholly unnecessary.

You'd be in a small minority on that. Rings are often the number 1 factor used in determining greatness. Shaq will be up 4-2 on Hakeem, bottom line. David Robinson has a ring; no one cares how he got it. No one cares about how Kareem got his last couple of rings. Moses Malone carried Dr. J to his ring. All people remember is the ring.

This is true. And Michael Jordan carried Scottie Pippen to several rings as well. ;)

who cares??? don't YOU know better??? you know as well as i do Shaq isn't the reason his team may win a ring this year. and you know as well as I do that Hakeem absolutely put his team on his back for those titles.

because the fools at ESPN/NESN/MSG network don't get it...who cares?

Shaq and Hakeem played MANY years in this same "era" you speak of.

While I am not sure exactly what your specific point was here....Shaq and Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson were all in their prime or close to it around the same time. But even still, the debate about top players at any position are usually not related to any era, but rather span the entire history of the sport.

What exactly did the Rockets win before 1994 that gave them the heart of a champion? Before '94, the Rockets were exactly what the Mavs are now, a good team that couldn't finish the job.

I think Dirk will come up big in games 6 and 7...

I would rather Shaq have 142 rings than Dallas have one.

Games 3 and 5 were very competitive and actually Dallas played better than Miami for most of those games. I think game 6 is going to be a blow out, Dallas is going to win by 15+. And if they win game 6, game 7 is a total toss up.

I care about how Hakeem is perceived/regarded. I think any fan should be. Simply me thinking he's great doesn't make it so or get him the respect he deserves. We're not just talking about ESPN here either. Basically any respected basketball journalist/historian outside of Houston will probably have a Shaq w/4 rings in a class ahead of Hakeem if they don't already. To me that's a good reason to root against him.

And Shaq is a huge reason for the success of that team. His mere presence still makes it easier for everyone else. Not many guys can average 19 pts and 10 rebs and shoot over 60 percent from the field. In fact Wade still may be more replaceable than Shaq at this point.

ok. i'm not arguing with you. i just don't care. hakeem was the greatest center i've ever seen in my life. i don't need someone else to tell me that to know it or remember it.

being a huge astros fan, i've come to love being slighted by the national media.

Dude, are you a Rockets fan?

I wasn't even a teenager, and I recognized the steely will, the hunger, the desire...And I really don't see how any Rockets fan who witnessed those finals could not recognize it.

Well, based on your age, a lot longer than you

Yeah, I noticed that too. Of course, if you're down 3 games to 2 like they were to the Knicks, it doesn't mean "heart of a champion". It was more like "heart of a gritty team that is fighting for its playoff life". That's why it's called "heart of a champion", you have to win a championship first.

Now, in 1995 when they won 9 road playoff games (including 2 series clinchers), became the only NBA champ history to beat four 55 win teams, came back from a 3-1 series deficit agains the Suns, when Elie hit the greatest shot in franchise histoy, and when Hakeem b****slapped the Mermaid the night he received Hakeem's MVP trophy...THAT was heart of a champion
