wait huh what? Isnt Mexico Independence Day Cinco De Mayo??? ok jk.. that has got to be one of the biggest misconceptions Americans have since its what they taught you in school here. Also wasnt it yesterday? and not today?
I don't think anybody taught us anything about it, actually. It was in the books but just not on the lesson plan. I'm not sure I even heard about until a radio ad about some bar or mexican beer.
Well the schools I went to in San Diego and Atlants acknowledged cinco de mayo and basically every teacher told us and compared it to our 4th of July. So naturally people grew up thinking oh cinco de mayo = July 4th = independence day
In the night of the 15th and the first hours of the 16th, Miguel Hidalgo said "el grito" and that is considered the beginning of the independence. Also, I got so drunk last night! hehe :grin: VIVA MEXICO!!!
