He did pitch 3 innings 3 days ago, so he probably wasn't gonna be able to go much longer.

Lets be thankful for what we got from him...

I hate that rule......pitchers have pitched more than that for YEARS.......makes little sense, what is more important is how he felt.

I vote the cheapest being the broken bat home run that I think a Padres (Jackson a shortstop) hit. It might even have been a grand slam, but I can't remember.

yeah, but not pitchers named ezekiel astacio. and not guys who just pitched 3 days ago. and not pitchers who don't wanna have arm problems in the future from being overworked (i.e. prior and wood).

And what pitcher, over the last 100 years, ever told his manager "I'm tired coach... go ahead and take me out."

    It never happens.

Also, he wasn't working on full rest anyways... so you have to evaluate this one a little differently.

Agreed... if only because Cairo put his head down in disgust after he made contact, and that ball had no velocity off the bat whatsoever.

Ausmus had one back in 2000 where the Cardinals announcers were just saying over and over again, "This place is a joke.... this place is a joke... this place is a joke." (and they're still scarred till today about how this park opened in 2000... while they ignore the fact that Busch has actually had a higher park rating factor the last few years).

i think we should've kept the bunt on. with pedro going well, i'd rather take 2 shots at getting the guy in from third (which wouldn't even require a hit w/ one out) than 3 shots at getting him in from second, especially with everett and crew coming up.

I dunno.... with Palmeiro hitting with such a high average, I would have gone for the hit in that situation.

    Squeeze here???

not that he would've still got the hit, but that's why you'd rather bunt. even singles aren't guaranteed.

nm, thank God we squeezed and didn't let ausmus GIDP. very nice bunt.

    tie game baby!

id like to see the percentage of squeeze plays when weve had a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs

I almost always think squeeze now in that situation ..the color guys should be saying "Garner is notorious for squeezing in these situations"

i would've thought the mets would try at least one pitchout, knowing how weak a hitter ausmus is. you've gotta be thinking squeeze, and you know you can still get brad out even wasting a ball. you can't pitchout again if the squeeze isn't on the first pitch, but i'd still try it the first pitch.

That place was going nuts after the squeeze. MadMax is right, this is becoming quite the baseball town.
