F**K DOTEL!!! DAMN IT!!! Why throw him a fast ball down the middle on 1-2? Throw the damn slider again..GEEZ
No... that's what happens when you a.) give up lead off doubles, and b.) leave a 1-2 pitch to their only HR threat right over the plate. We need to be able to win THESE games.... we don't just need to bust open every game in the bottom of the 8th so our "closer" will feel more comfortable. IMO, if we can't win these type of games, with a 2-0 lead... what the hell are we going to do in the playoffs?
If we get a sacrafice fly, the game's over and we win 3-2. In my mind the hitters are to blame more than Dotel. I agree we should be able to close that game out, but for a Major League team not to be able to score 1 run with the bases loaded and no outs is inexcusable.
I called it! When they decided to pitch to Piazza, I looked at my wife and told her he'd knock it out. Piazza is good. Zeile, comparatively, blows chunks. Pitch to Zeile with 2 outs. Even if he hits a double, Piazza probably isn't fast enough to score. And also... Brad Lidge is our best reliever. He needs to close. Dotel doesn't really have good enough control.
My dad just expressed the opinion that Clemens should be allowed to take a baseball bat to Dotel's head. Right now, I think I agree.
Hasn't back to the future tought us anything?? Yea, its unfortunate that we didnt' score any runs... but that is NOT why Mike Piazza is able to jack one 408 feet for a HR. I think MLB closers should not be blowing 2 saves, at home, within one week.
ya gotta close out game not give up ****ing home runs to the other team everytime you come out to get a potential save our bats were horrendous yes, our pitching should have closed it out regardless.
I agree to an extent, its just that you HAVE to score a run with the bases loaded and no outs, no matter what the game situation is. I said this even before Dotel took the mound.
You are right about that, but Dotel cannot allow a 1-2 pitch to Piazza to go anywhere but in the dirt. Dotel needs to go back to the setup role and see if he can right himself there.
Of course you can. It's called an IW . that's a cliche, but I don't think it's a particulary smart bit of conventional wisdom. Generally, I don't like IW's. However, when the 2nd better is significantly inferior and doesn't have much power - it's a good idea. Just because it runs afoul of some piece of Classic Baseball Wisdom doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.
