This whole thing sounds like a Phil Hendrie bit.

If you buy a home that is part of an HOA, yes. But, the agreements do expire after a long time if not renewed. But, you know ahead of time if the house is in the HOA. So, if you don't want to live in one, you can pick a different neighborhood. I chose my neighborhood partly because it did not have an HOA.

Ditto. The fees for the HOA in the condos I was looking at would have made my monthly payment almost 300 more than what I am paying in my neighborhood now.

This isn't about the truck, it's about this HOA and their belief that rules are awesome and a great way to puff yourself up by excluding people. Typical Dallas mentality. Frisco is a turd and this truck-driving moron should have known better than to expect common human decency from his neighbors.

Lived in Dallas for two years until a year ago.

They think they are LA when they are actually Cincinnati

It's not like the Houston HOAs have clean hands. The HOA that took that little old lady's house away over a few dollars in late dues was, arguably, worse than the snooty a-wipes who will eventually let this guy park his truck wherever he likes.

It wasn't that long ago that a subdivision HOA in the Houston area started hundreds of foreclosure proceedings against homeowners in the neighborhood for various violations, both real and imagined, some of which were actively being contested. One HOA in the Houston area started foreclosure proceedings against over 30% of the houses in the HOA.

    A brand new F150 can't park in a Texas driveway !?

Good Lord - 2012 can't get here fast enough.

When I was young (1982), we moved into a nice neighborhood (Pine Trails in North Shore area). Within a few years the HOA lost much of its authority (I'm not sure if they even have one anymore) and the subdivision went down fast. We tried selling the house 12yrs later (1994) for a loss of 8K and we were told it was too high. We were the only people on our street that repainted our house after the paint got weathered, and we were one of the few houses on our block that actually really kept the yard looking nice. There were houses in the neighborhood painted Teal and pink, and a few houses had grass/weeds 2-3ft tall in their yards. HOA's definately look out for the interests of the homeowners as a whole and are usually a good thing. I'll never live in another neighborhood without one.
That being said...that HOA in Frisco needs to get over themselves. That eschews the typical Dallas-snob attitude.

Those would actually be violations of city ordinances where I live. I would think most cities would have restrictions against grass/weeds so high (every town I've ever lived in has).

Normally, I wouldn't have said anything, but I've been looking for an excuse to post that picture.
