Hey, I'll hold you to that. Didn't mean to hijack your thread stra. I haven't liked a Metallica album since And Justice For All. The reviews I'm reading are saying things like "this is the REAL follow-up to Justice" etc. I may have to check it out. BTW, if I like it...I WILL buy it.
I've only listened to it once, but my first impression was that musically it's much better than their recent efforts, but lyrically it just doesn't measure up to their classic stuff (Master, Justice, etc...).
this Metallica cd SUCKS... I dont know how anyone can like it, there is not 1 solo on the whole cd... bak to the roots of old metallica? gimme a break.. the song st.anger, they stole the sound from Slipknot
This is one criticism I definitely agree with. I get the feeling like the deep-seeded anger that Hetfield put into his lyrics in the early years was genuine, and now he is just trying to sound angry. The music I have enjoyed a lot, but the lyrics and vocals are decidedly uninspired. Luckily for me I don't consider lyrics very important when I choose my music, so it doesn't bother me much. An example of the poor lyrics is how on songs like "My World" where James just repeats things like "It's my world" and "Outta my head" over and over and over again, rather than writing rhyming lyrics that could give the song greater depth. On a side note, with the album having very little lead guitar riffs and absolutely no solos, what does Kirk Hammett even do in this band anymore?
Well, I took it upon myself to "review" most of this album and I can easily say, while it has a harder sound, the songs simply suck A S S!! Load and Reload, which weren't great releases by Metallica(I still like them though) are so much better than this piece of crap. No way I am going to waste my money on this trash.
I listned to a buddy's version that bought the CD. Songs rocked harder but 2 things I noticed: Every song sounded the same. Lars' snare drum sounded like an old garbage can.
You going to that Drew? Are they hitting Austin? I don't think DeGarmo is touring with them. I'm toying with the idea of seeing DL Roth at Stubb's in July.
Damn. It looks like they are hitting Houston next Monday, then Dallas on Wednesday. No Austin or San Antonio dates. I would imagine they would have a 2nd leg of the tour coming up later in the year. I dont understand why they would tour without their album released yet though.... Looks like DeGarmo recorded "Tribe" with them, then had scheduling conflicts making him unavailable to tour with the band. Hopefully when/if they come back through TX, he will be with them. Id like to see DLR...... with Van Halen of course. Do you know any scoop about VH? They are screwed if they dont lure Hagar or Roth back into the mix.
I love Qr, but I never liked DT and I most likely don't wanna pay that co-headlining price. Hell, Qr was charging 30 bucks the last time they came through Austin at the Music Hall. I guess that's what it takes to see a big show these days. Haven't heard anything on VH. Can't remember if Eddie ever got rid of his cancer or not. I know Michael Anthony had been playing some shows with Hagar, and the two of them were recording with the guitarist from Journey. I've been meaning to check out Roth. Apparently he plays pretty much straight classic VH tunes. Everything I've heard has been pretty positive.
Might be worth checking him out just so I can hear: Everybody Wants Some and Aint Talkin' Bout Love How much are tix?
Holy CRAP. I can't believe Dream Theater was having a concert and I didn't even freaking know about it until less than a week prior! I'm slacking off. If I can scrape together the dough, I will definitely be going to this show (assuming it isn't sold out).
