The coffin box thing sounds like a rip-off from KISS. I like how their doing the Guitar Hero 3 thing out of gate with their new album...but I don't play the game. lol As far as why Metallica takes 5-6 years to release a new album, I wonder if it has anything to do with how they write lyrics...as seen in their documentary. They seemed really lost trying to come up with good lyrics. I seem to recall James was doodling a lot.
hetfield will never be confused for eddie vedder, MJK from tool, or chris cornell. even mustaine is a better writer. i looked at some other bands, and below are the average months between album releases. zeppelin - 19 pink floyd - 18 sabbath - 17 megadeth - 22 iron maiden - 22 metallica averages a new album every 33 months. i guess there are factors to consider, like a band taking a hiatus, or the lead singer going in to rehab.
This used to be my band...sad to think how low they have sunk and how many criticize their every move now. Its really just sad... At least Megadeth is still kicking ass
The documentary Metallica did was revealing about why they have fell apart. They made too much money and were too successful. They couldn't honestly maintain the anger, hunger and edge to keep playing the same type of music, but they tried anyway. They became a formulaic band and didn't have the imagination to do something else. Instead, they had group therapy. Dear God, that's lame.
Has anyone checked out any of the free downloads available at livemetallica.com? It appears they've got live shows available on there going back to '82.
Since Metallica is drug free I'm pretty sure its hard to make lyrics without the drugs that are meaning for a thrash band, plus if this album suck me and my friend are planning to burn it.

when is this going to leak? or as somebody else asked, can we at least get a single? we're less than 8 weeks from the rumored release date.
I thought for sure we would have gotten a single by now. Or at least a good preview of a new "finshed" song. I say finished because on that Mission Metallica website, it is all clips of demos or them recording in studio. What ever happened to them putting out the first new song on Rock Band? Guess they scrapped that when they did the Guitar hero deal...
