sorry for the double post but I will put it into this context. I have a few songs in HD-Audio range (.flac) or Fully Lossless Audio and those are only in 2.1 with an avg bitrate of 1020/kbs and for a 2 or 3 minute song were looking at 30megs compressed I have a few 9-10 minute songs pushing 275megs...ontop of growing those /kbs to sizes that would be uncompressed AND lossless at 7.1 channel surround we can be talking gigabytes for a simple 3 minute song... I am attributing most disk space going to uncompressed 7.1 (8) channels of greater than HD sound.
IIRC, Resistance uses 7.1 uncompressed (PCM) audio, and it only took up a few GB (and I think that was with multiple languages). I fully expect MGS4 to use more though due to a better soundtrack, more VA for cutscenes, and probably just better overall use of sound (although the lack of multiple languages may even things out a bit?). Still a substantial amount just to spend on audio, but I'm not sure if Konami spent 20GB-30GB just on audio (or something along those lines).
No clue. Probably pretty low, maybe similar to the percentage of HDTVs capable of 1080p if I had to guess (or something along those lines). BTW, here are some better images of the MGS4 (Japanese) boxart:
This seems like blind speculation on your part. Is it so hard to consider the fact that the content goes beyond the limitations of a standard DVD without some optional specification? Let it go.
you let it go. http://www.hdtvuk.tv/2007/10/metal_gear_soli.html Konami’s Ryan Payton, who produced the PS3 title "Metal Gear Solid 4", has stated that they couldn't have produced the game without Blu-ray. “We’re really eating up that capacity and it’s going to right up the brim in how much gigabytes we’re using” he explained in an interview with E for All. In particular, it's the uncompressed audio that is taking the space. “It’s almost scary because you can hear every click in somebody’s mouth so we’ve got to clean that up too and that’s a new thing for next-gen sound,” he said. “We’re happy that we have 25 or 50 gigabytes to work with." This points to the possibility of Konami starting to release PS3 titles on dual-layer Blu-ray discs, utilising the full 50GB capacity. Some have commented that programmers should get better at compressing stuff. Presumably there'll come a time, at this rate, when even 50GB discs aren't enough. from the horses mouth himself.
to put it into perspective...HEAVENLY SWORD the beautiful but short almost 6 hour game used 10 GB of UNCOMPRESSED sound. If a 6 hour game used 10gb worth of uncompressed audio with relatively little voice over and orchestrals and sound effects compared to MGS series its no surprised to be that it would NEED a 50 gig just for sound alone... http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/heavenly-sword-packed-with-10-gb-of-sound-data/ 10 GB of SOUND. Thats more than 1 standard dvd9. Dont tell me they arent finding excuses to fill up the extra space.
Not sure how it will be relative to MGS4, but HS has a pretty good amount of voice acting (lot of cutscenes) and some pretty good sound effects. Not sure how you came to the conclusion about the orchestrals though. I thought HS had a great orchestral score, probably one of the best I've heard in a game (I prefer it to any of the previous MGS games). I would like to point out that Heavenly Sword did have support for multiple languages. The sources you gave point out that this audio includes support for 11 different languages. There was also a lot of bonus content on the disc which I wonder if they attribute some of the audio size to (making of feature, some anime prequel for HS, trailers IIRC, etc.). If Konami took the same approach, I wouldn't have been surprised at all that they filled up a 50GB disc. The thing that is surprising me is that they aren't supporting multiple languages (not even 2, let alone 11), and AFAIK, the extras are on a separate disc. I'm not trying to say that this kind of audio doesn't take up a lot of space. It definitely does. If Insomniac had to put Resistance on a DVD using the same amount of audio data, they'd have to cut their game data in half and cut out all the movies (among other things), which probably goes along with what Ryan was saying. I'd just be a little surprised if it was the sole reason MGS4 is filling up a 50GB disc. If I had to guess, I'm sure the game data and videos (if they use them) use up >7GB. Guess we'll find out soon. Maybe they'll have 100s of hours worth of codec conversations stored on the disc.
Not sure where they got them, but it seems like there are some new MGS4/MGO pictures in the following Youtube video: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xwISJ9erFPE"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xwISJ9erFPE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Might be some minor spoilers for MGS4.
? On what games? And it's definitely a 1st-party controller, right? I do know that if you put in a game (any game), you can hit the PS (middle) button, and you'll get a 4-item menu. One of these is "controller settings," and in this menu you can turn the vibration function on and off. If you don't have this menu, make sure you have the latest firmware update. It may be necessary for vibration to work. Let me know what happens. I didn't have a problem with either of my DS3s.
this is OEM sony. Rumble works on burnout paradise demo, just not 2k8. firmware is updated. I think take2 and other companies wil release a patch when the official usa release nears? does your 2k8 rumble?
Huh, I guess not. Just tested it. Works with every other game on the list that I have, though. Weird.
I haven't, I've always used eBay... but I know chow_yun_fat has, and he says they're a good site and that he's "had no issues." Do keep in mind that international shipping takes a lot longer than domestic...
