yep i am jelous you get to see that stuff. I don't think that makes me bitter or resentful though. I got press credentials to the GDC but was notified to late to get Plane tickets. That was a let down.
Tinman...what exactly do you do to be "in the game" I am interested to see what this is...a best buy employee? an MLG "pwner" perhaps? Do you run your own Starcraft clan? Maybe you play Stratego with members of your basement D&D league. A video game tester? Perhaps you manage Gamestops or a Toys-R-Us? I swear I saw you at TILT in the Galleria... But seriously how are you "in the game"? I KNOW! You are EA SPORTS in the FLESH.
I'm not telling you where I work, unless i meet you in person. I don't know how much Best Buy employees make, but I doubt they get to go Vegas every year. My company deals with TVs, consoles, computers etc. we work directly with all the major parties, sony, microsoft, etc. I'm not in retail either. I'm corporate. you probably did see me at Tilt back when they had streetfighter champion edition! I'm the guy that's winning
i'm not a fanboy, i like my 360 just like you like yours with this economy who knows i'm still gonna be where i'm at. but i'd like to stay in consumer electronics cause i think its a fun field. I use to work in oil when i lived in Houston. it was not exciting.
This economy prevented me from opening my goal for Houston so I am pushing it back till after Obama/Hillary takes over. I was going to open up 3 Krystal burgers around Houston (Westhiemer, Medical Center,Woodlands) but the risk has been amplified now that my investments haven't been doing too well as of late. I still have more money than most...but I still freak out over the loss of 3-5 thousand...drop in the bucket but none of the less one less drop. Not to mention my latest trip to L'auberge DuLac that did NOT go over well.
you a gambler? i've had no fun gambling in Louisiana. it was along time ago though. Remember Player's Island? man that place sucked. I'm sticking to Vegas.
I go to Vegas at least 4 times a year I am going next month...I stay now at the Wynn but it used to be the Caesars Palace. I go to Lake Charles mainly because everything I do impairs me from flying out on random weekends when I want to blow some cash... Protip: Avoid one arm bandits like the plague. I have never had any success with slot machines.
I went to vegas for the superbowl. It was pretty neat. I ended up at a strip club on the last night and it was amazing. Afraid to go to a local one and be disappointed.
That's nice! you're high rolling. I stay at MGM. I've been lucky at the slots, i only play the penny slots for 20 minutes or so to keep my mind off the tables. I like Ceasars, stayed there only once. My favorite is still the Hard Rock. I like the vibe. decent craps dealers. oh, Mr Lucky's has the gambler's special, you have to ask for it. $7.77 for steak and shrimp
Yea i saw but that was the only electronics store I saw in the whole town! I was upset. We stayed at the Bellagio. The buffet was amazing the show they had there was cool. Really wanted to see Carrot Top though. It's funny how the dealers at Ceasers were dressed like Strippers. I don't remember the name of the club. I lost so much money gambling. I figured if was was going to lose cash, i might as well do it at a stripclub.
The MGS4 website has been updated: http://www.konami.jp/mgs4/en/ New wallpaper: Spoiler MGO section also updated, and I think it has some new screens. FAQ from the PS Blog: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/02/28/metal-gear-solid-4-guns-of-the-patriots-faq/ BTW, apparently they weren't able to put multiple language tracks into the game (so no English in the Japanese version, and no Japanese in the English version). There wasn't enough room on the disc.
Its due to uncompressed audio and video...to fit a game on a standard DVD the xbox360 and to some extent the Wii compress the game files which the system uncompresses and uses on the fly. The PS3 since there is so much room on the disk chooses not to uncompress them to help speed loading times...and since theres 8 channels of audio the audio and HD cut scenes take up most of the space...if they did compress them there would be enough room but I suppose its chosen the other way.
Using uncompressed data would actually result in longer load times AFAIK. Uncompressed data = larger data size = more time needed to transfer from disc to RAM (or HDD or whatever). If it took a while for the CPU to decompress it, then there might be an advantage to this, but AFAIK, it is MUCH quicker to compress data as much as possible (w/o a loss in quality, assuming that is the desire) and then have Cell decompress it on the fly (have a SPU work on decompression or something). I don't think this decompression is all that taxing, certainly not enough to offset the slow reading from disc. And FWIW, MGS games tend not to use prerendered videos which would require a lot of storage space (see Final Fantasy CGI). I'm thinking that might change with MGS4, although things would still be basically the same. Unless they just have too much pride, it would be better to record the real-time in-engine cutscenes and play those during the game (like Uncharted, R&C, Heavenly Sword, etc.). On top of that, I think they're sticking in scenes from the 1st 3 MGS games that would be available to watch during the game whenever a particular scene from those games is referenced (EX: when Meryl appears, you may get a flashback to MGS1). I wonder if perhaps the "secret" intro to the game requires a lot of data, possibly for prerecorded videos. I've tried to avoid what I can about it, although I did read speculation that would possibly explain it needing a lot of storage capacity on the disc.
We are talking about completely uncompressed 7.1 channel surround sound music...We are talking about an exponentially larger size sound file from regular COMPRESSED 5.1 channel sound. The sound is what is taking up most of the space ontop of Kojima being notoriously agaisnt compression for sound saying that it ruins the quality of the sound. I am fairly well off but even I dont have a 7.1 surround sound unit and I am pretty sure no one on this board does either.
