You'd earn respect if you weren't such a douche bag about it all the time. I love my 360, seriously I do and I use it all the time. I love my PS3 as well, it's a great machine despite all of the ridiculous posts that make zero sense stating the contrary.

To each their own. I just feel BAMBOOZLED that I wasted 600 on a blu-ray player that I thought would be mainly used as a gaming machine...yanno since a PLAYSTATION is supposed to play games and all.

MGS is decent. Never been a fan of it after playing at that Raiden princess. That ruined the series.

Well I was thinking about getting a stand alone blu ray player, but if I'm gonna drop 500 bones, and I can get an awesome looking game for it, I'm going to take advantage of a jelafied deal.

You really should give MGS3:Subsistence a try.

I played MGS3 on the PS2...A few bones to pick but overall solid although nothing will ever replace the first 3D MGS for me...crawling through the snow on the PS1 and seeing your foot prints was revolutionary to me at the time

i don't own a ps3. people respect the substance.. as well as the superiority of the 1999ers

Maybe you should've waited until it was $399 and buy some games with it. I just got the 80GB Motoro Storm bundle for $399 on ebay.

    Games I plan on getting:

    Resistance
    Orange Box
    Devil May Cry 4
    NBA 2K8

    Just to name a few.
It does play games, you just have to stop b****ing on BBS's and buy them.

    BURN ;)

    Resistance: Have.
    OrangeBox: Have. PC.
    DMC4: Have. Xbox 360.
    2k8. Have. 360
Uncharted. Just bought today because DexlerFan22 talked highly of it, maybe this will save the ps3 for me.
    Burnout: Have 360.
CoD4 Have 360 and PC (gift from someone)
    Assassins creed: Have 360
    Oblivion: Have 360
    Darkness: Have 360
VF5: Bought today for 360 for online
    Motorstorm: Have PS3

I have a huge collection of games...mostly PC 360 and Wii. Ive only found Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, and Motorstorm decent enough to buy for the PS3. Theres a definite discrepancy in my opinon on the quality of the games...08 looks promising however with FFXIII and GT5, GoW3 (possible) aswell as Star Ocean 4.

GTA4 I will get on the Xbox however as I feel the controller lays out better for games like that.

Maybe people misinterpret my words. I dont HATE the ps3...but in terms of a gaming machine I am surprised people would pick it vs the 360 if terms of games and playability.

It is a decent system-seller, or at least it tends to go along with the other major PS system sellers in the last 10 years or so (Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, MGS, etc). I think some people may be overestimating the impact MGS4 could have on PS3 sales, but the franchise itself is pretty strong in all 3 regions (MGS4 should hopefully sell around 4M-7M copies, although I'd love it if it got 10M+...maybe the tweaks for the Western audience will help).

I think Gametrailers had it as their #2 game of 2008, ahead of GTAIV, LBP, Final Fantasy XIII (don't know what it was doing there), and a few others.

Sorry, but I have to insert the obligatory picture of the MGS4 360 boxset :)

That's part of it, although of course Sony wouldn't allow for it unless they got something in return (I'm sure PLENTY of other developers would want the same thing as Konami). As Brando2101 said, it is probably part of some exclusivity contract between Sony and Konami (Konami may keep MGS4 exclusive to PS3 if Sony bundles it in with PS3s and helps to market the game).

With Phil Harrison gone, that seems less and less likely. :(

Doubt any of these will make it out in the US in 08 unfortunately (unless you count GT5 Prologue). Some may not even be a lock for 09. :(

If anyone buys a PS3 over a 360 based solely on its gaming capabilities, it was probably because they preferred the PS3 exclusives (those out today and/or those out in the future, like MGS4, GT5 or FFXIII) over the 360 exclusives. PS2 BC may have been a factor as well.

MGS/FF/GT fan will probably get a PS3, Halo/Fable/NG fan will probably get a 360, Madden/Guitar Hero/NBA 2K fan will probably get a 360 (at least right now). The system that offers someone the gaming experience they want will probably be the system they purchase.

360 purchases are flattening. This should be Sony's year. It's theirs to lose.

Uncharted alone probably won't "save the system" for you, but I very much doubt you'll regret buying it. It's much greater than the sum of its parts. Even when I'm tired of other shooters, Uncharted and Gears of War tend to keep me coming back... something both of them have in common is great cutscenes. The AI is also uncommonly excellent on the higher difficulties. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Indeed. My original console buying decision went something like this:
"The 360 kicks ass, I love Gears of War, online is great, it has more games... but the PS3 is going to have Tekken 6 and FF13, I'm not sure I can live without those... hmmm, still not sure... *Firmware update allowing upscaling of PS2 games comes out* okay, that just sold me right there, since my PS2 library is huge."

But oi... I still think I'll end up with a 360 eventually just so I can play Lost Odyssey. I might wait for yet another price drop though, which I realize could take quite a number of years at this point...

Fable and Ninja Gaiden will still make it tough. Those are quality franchises... a friend of mine bought a 360 a week ago just for Ninja Gaiden.

I guess you could argue that they should flatten, but there's really no evidence that 360 sales will flatten (or already have) IIRC. Sales were strong in Q4, and while the PS3 outsold the 360 in January in the US, that was due to shortages (may even be the case in February and possibly March?). Well....I guess technically sales could flatten due to that, but demand could still be pretty strong.

The PS3 certainly has more going for it now than it did last year though (Blu-ray's success, release of games like MGS4 and GT5: P, Home, worldwide sales, etc.). A bit of a make or break year for the PS3 IMO.

I'd think we'd see at least one more 360 price cut this year. MS should definitely be able to make a few changes internally to the 360 soon that should help drive down costs. Of course, that wouldn't always lead to the savings being passed down to the consumer, but I'd imagine it would be likely given the competition they're facing.

It certainly shouldn't take a number of years before it gets another price cut.

Uncharted so far: Badass...but its nothing revolutionary...great graphics and sound but semi-repetitive gameplay. Voice Acting aint half bad...story flows well...atleast my PS3 isnt sitting dormant like a sleeping volcano anymore.

360 Pro for $299 or less soon, you think?

To this day I don't know why i like it so much. There's no single aspect that makes the game for me... it just seems to meld a lot of concepts very well.

Be sure to play through on "Crushing" difficulty after you've unlocked it. It's even more fun when it's a challenge. I kinda wish that difficulty had been selectable from the get-go.

I would think it would definitely happen by the end of the year, if not much sooner. After all, the Pro has only dropped $50 since it launched in November 2005; don't know for sure, but I would think it would be pretty close to a record for a major gaming console if it went 3 years and only dropped $50 (most consoles didn't launch at $400 either). Popular opinion seems to be that MS will drop the price around the time GTAIV hits. Guess we'll have to wait and see about that.

I should probably note that I'm a bit more familiar with how Sony cuts costs on their hardware (PS2, PSP, PS3), but I think MS probably does things in a similar way (maybe not quite as efficient or as aggressive though). Nintendo is the weird one. There's no way I could really predict when they'd finally decide to drop the Wii's price...or if they'll ever do it. ;)

I think that's basically what they were shooting for. Although they're well-done, there's certainly nothing that unique about the parts of the gameplay (gunplay, platforming, melee, puzzles, etc). But they combined them in such a way that hasn't really been done before in a game.

Anyway, saw this MGS4 related article at IGN:

I really think consumers are automatically assuming the PS3 has a higher potential ceiling than the 360, and if there's any glimmer of that potential that will be the tipping point.

The PS3's downfalls have been mainly from customer outrage in their lack of hubris and their formerly high price range. The hardware, eventually software, and distribution has largely been solid or unnoteworthy.

Whereas Microsoft has been hit by manufacturing problems, quality control issues, XBL outages, and their maddening ambivalence from supporting a high def DVD drive to not supporting it to maybe supporting it. I personally think they're moronic by releasing more expensive SKUs that doesn't justify increasing the original experience for early adopters.

With Blu-ray coming off as a winner, people who have been on the fence now know the clear cut value and technology winner.
    Would I buy a 500 buck Elite system with a DVD drive or a PS3 with blu-ray?

MS will cut their price, but I believe the advantages people value is contingent on the failures of the PS3's upcoming games.

BTW- For those who have an Xbox and no HDDVD addon. Now's the time to get one real cheap. 25-50 dollar clearance cheap...

360 Pro wont go 299 if ever...that price point would seem almost unfair and I am sure Sony would send their legal team to fight it due to slashing prices to undercut competition knowing Sony can never offer a product near that pricepoint...

Second: As much as I am enjoying Uncharted so far...could its value be a little overblown from the lack of quality exclusive titles (thus far) on the PS3? Not saying it isnt great but say if Uncharted game out in Nov of 08 would it even have come close to your drive?

Here's the thing: the 360 has great exclusives. The problem is, those exclusives aren't really my bag. I've played most of them at least for awhile, because I have friends with 360s. Bioshock didn't thrill me. Gears did, but I got it on the PC. There's nothing remarkable about Halo 3 to me. Rainbow Six: Vegas is fantastic, but it eventually came out for the PS3. Lost Odyssey is still the only game I'm missing out on that's bothering me.

Uncharted may not be the greatest thing since sliced bread... but I like it better than Halo 3 and Bioshock. And there are so many good non-exclusive games, that I don't have time to play all of them as it is.

Really, the upscaling of PS2 games and Tekken 6 was what tipped me, like I said.

It's all just personal preference. As I've said before, I can easily see how a lot of people would take the 360 over the PS3 as a gaming machine... Bioshock and Halo 3 have gotten more critical acclaim than Uncharted, and probably have wider appeal. Just not to me.
