I understand what is pay is for, but that doesn't mean he can't show his appreciation to those fans who help pay his paycheck.

The second part is a great point. It's been so long since I've cared about autographs that I forget there are people like that. I'm still scarred from Reggie Jackson refusing to give me an autograph when I was five. :D That, and I'm spoiled by hitting Roger Clemens up outside of Landry's in Katy back in 1986, not to mention him dressing up on Halloween and signing autographs all night in front of his house.

BTW, this doesn't change my opinion of Bush anymore than the house thing does...which is to say none.

I'm a High School Football official here in SoCal although I started doing HS after Reggie had already gone to SC. Talking to other officials, I have heard nothing but complements about the character of Reggie. From everything I've heard he is one of the most respectful players out there. I've heard/seen horror stories about many of the other "stars" to come through here with public enemy number 1 being Kellen Winslow Jr.

I understand how someone could be miffed in not getting an autograph, but you also have to understand that he can't sign something every time someone asks him. Who knows what that exact situation was for him. Maybe he was late for something else as I am sure it is a super busy week for these guys. I for one am not worried about Reggie (or Vince for that matter) in regards to character.

It is for this reason that I will always respect Roger. We went to his house 2 years in a row as a kid on Halloween, and the second year he called me over and talked to me for a min telling me about how I was wearing the same costume as his kid. For a young baseball fanatic, there was nothing better.

That signed ball is still one of my most prized possessions.

I think the whole autograph thing is really stupid. Even as a kid I never asked when I had the opportunity (of course it was only sad sack Astros like Metzger and Rader). What's the big deal about someone scribbling a usually unreadable name on something? It doesn't make you their buddy, doesn't allow you to share in their accomplishments anyomore than you would as a fan without an autograph. The whole autograph market perplexes me and further reinforces the idea that we have more money than sense.

Anybody over 12 years old that asks for an autograph is a loser.

I didn't say you made the story up. You said you thought it was david Robinson (making it sound like you were unsure). It may be true, I was just saying that Robinson was one of the nicest players I've ever met. Just goes to prove our theory that you can't judge anyone by one isolated incident.

On a side note, Reggie Jackson is a major a-hole. Clemens is super cool too.

Well, they were heroes to me, but they didn't exactly strike fear in other teams.

I don't know about loser, but I don't understand the big deal about autographs either. The sad thing is that anybody under 12 years old that asks for an autograph is probably doing it because Daddy told them too so he can sell it on Ebay...

I'd much rather get a picture if I have a camera handy. If not, just a handshake would mean more to me than an impersonal autograph.

I went to Camden Yards the year it opened. I was waiting for Cal Ripken Jr. to sign my cap...he didn't! Cal Ripken Jr. is a punk. Makes perfect sense to me. Right..

I was about to post the same thing, pretty much word for word after I read the original post. I even had the age of 12 in my head too, lol.

I'd much rather shake a guy's hand and have a friendly encounter, rather than being one of the masses that huddle around a star.

I've met numerous athletes, and only have only 2 autographs...Kenny Smith from when I was young, and I got Aaron Glenn's at the draft party in '02 because he had set up a booth to do so.

Guys, my little story from this morning was just an account of what happened to me this morning, I wasn't trying to start an assesment of the guy being a jerk or whatever, because from most accounts - he's not, I was just saying that I was miffed by him not signing the autograph when no cameras were around and I was quite obviously the only Texans' fan there (well the only one in Texans' gear at least, besides my friend with his hat and a UT kid). I just thought Vince held himself much classier throughout with the fans than Reggie did, and even flashed the hook em' horns sign to myself and others when cheered for, and clapped for Reggie when Reggie was called out by Rich Eisen.

Try not to overanalyze, it was just an opinion on my behalf. Regarding autographs, I think they are cool but I do as well agree that having a good handshake + picture is even better. Unfortunately, that was impossible in this setting with the guards sorrounding, so autograph was the next bext thing - but that didn't work out. I dont think Bush is a bad guy, I just think Vince came off to the crowd as classier, its just an opinion - not a fact. I understand that he's considered a good guy, and that just b/c he didn't sign my stuff that doesn't make him a bad guy - and I AGREE with all of those sentiments, I was just annoyed, that's all.

So it's a few hours past now, and Vince and Reggie are both good guys, I just will remember Vince being a little classier. In terms of football move, I still beleive Bush is the correct pick for this team, and having Bush and Andre on the field for 80% of our plays is a SICK offense, let alone adding Moulds and Putzier, with Domanick Davis backing up. Am I a huge Carr guy? No, not at all actually. But with the talent around him (including Bush) I'm sure he'll be much better, and I'm excited to find out what happens.

In any event, here are my videos. They're nothing great, and very amateur-ish, but at least its cool to see them off the football field. Let me know if you see me on the local news (NBC/ABC) as I'm out here in NY and I won't be able to watch. Go Texans!

Really? Is that why you were willing to, after only one encounter, flop on an opinion you claim to have had for several months? You weren't trying to assess his character, yet you imply you wouldn't him as "the face of the franchise"?

    Sorry we misread you.

What's with this attack mode dude? I liked Vince and Reggie always, and now I like Vince more. I haven't flipped my opinion on who we should take - Bush would be the better fit. But now I do think Vince is a 'nicer' guy, that doesn't mean Bush is a bad guy - so don't read into that. I just think Vince is nicer.

    Dude...read your first post.
In any event if VY actually flashed his championship ring at Leinart, then wtf would Leinart care? He could flash his TWO championship rings back at him!

And I would like to know who was the first person to decide that pen on paper from someone famous is actually worth someone. How was the market created for this stuff. I see it more as a personal memento.
