With summer here, I pretty much go tieless to the office every day now unless I know I'll be meeting with a client. I've been getting conflicting information as to which buttons you can leave undone on your shirt.

What's the general consensus on how many buttons to leave undone at the top? Just the collar button, or the collar button plus the one below it (the top two buttons on the shirt)?

I try to button all the way to the top, but unfortunately, my robust chest hair forces them to come undone.

Just the collar button. I always have a tie in my desk just in case.

Outside of work I have the top 2 buttons and the bottom button unbuttoned.

For some reason, I button all buttons when wearing a polo but I leave the collar button undone on a dress shirt if I am not wearing a tie.

My father told me in second grade that if I did that I would look like a nerd. One button unless it's just a bad cut, but I've actually kind of switched to wearing ties full-time, even on weekends and holidays.

I'm pretty sure there is some difference from shirt to shirt...for some 2 buttons seems good and for others it's too much, the top starts to crease and looks sloppy, so then it's 1.

Top two on a dress shirt if not wearing a tie...that should be a standard rule.

Buttoning one more is an uptight look.

Unbuttoning one more is trying too hard.

    2 is the perfect balance.

I quit wearing shirts. I like to show off my Brazilian waxed chest, and my almond nipples get lots of complements.

Wouldn't you look like a desperate salesman, laid off executive, or professional whose car just broke down in the early '90s, so you have to walk to the nearest phone booth or gas station?
