    $40-$50.

But my hair is long - damn near to my waist at its longest point when I pull out the curl. Since I get it trimmed only about once every 8 months to a year, I don't mind going to pricey females and paying more.

Just like salon's don't know what to do with a normal-guy haircut, normal-guy barber shops don't know what to do with long hairs like me. They don't do anything fancy other than wash/condition, but they know long hair better than any barber.

When my hair was short, I refused to pay more than $15 for a haircut and only went to barber shops.

I do TV news, (and sing in a band) so haircut is a pretty big deal. I used to pay a lot (I thought) for what my boss disdainfully called "Ronald Reagan" hair, including varnishing it Gipper color. I thought it was very Rockabilly, and more Johnny Cash or Roy Orbison or something...It looked fine but the cost was about 50 bucks a month to maintain.

Now I go to the Uzbek guy across the street from where I live that only speaks Russian. I think he only knows two haircuts: shaved bald and Russian paratrooper. There's no point in telling him what you want. I pay 70 shekels for that and an old school shave with a straight razor. My girlfriend likes it better, even if old Russian guys now stop me to ask for directions.

The shop is one chair, one guy, and an old transistor radio.

70 Israeli shekels = 18.69056 U.S. dollars (according to google).

Aren't tips in society a show of appreciation to the quality of service you received? So all $15 haircuts are actually the same quality wise? I think it's more of a YMMV service world we are in.

I'm not saying all $15 haircuts are the same quality. What I am saying is... you have a service, you think that service is worth $15, you advertise it as such and you charge as such, then when you provide me that service... I pay as such. But then you get in a tiff when I don't give you a tip?
When you eat a good burger do you say, 'Damn, that's a badass burger. I'm going to send an extra $5 directly to the chef.'? Or when you get a plumber to fix your leak do you say, 'Damn, he fixed the leak just like I paid him to do. I'm going to pay him an extra $50 for doing the job I just paid him to do.'?
If I find a good plumber, who does a good job, I tell people about him, give him referrals, and use him again. I don't pay him extra for just doing his job.

I guess I lump haircutters with the other occupations that depend on tips, like wait staffs/bartenders, and valet service. I dunno, I guess I care more about my hair appearance then a burger tasting good, so I am more mindful of the quality they give and tipping accordingly. I was told once that in the same vein of never pissing off waitstaff (cause you know what they can do), be nice to the haircutters also. But most guys don't stick to one hairstylist anyways.

Plumbing - those guys aren't exactly on minimum wage so I expect them doing a good job for the amount of money they charge.

I don't get haircuts often enough to know exactly. Pretty sure I pay about 30 bucks each time.

No wonder you guys spend so much time on-line.

I pay $400 for each exquisite haircut. I am worth it.

I pay $55 and give a $10 tip. If I ever want it short I do it myself but otherwise I pay for quality.

I never tip. Since cuts just bumped to $14 I'll tell them keep the change if I pay $15. But the only time I'm gonna tip is if the barber skips me ahead of everyone in the shop before me.

    $2.99

Usually they say you get what you pay for, but out of all the salons/barbers I've been to, they do the best job by far!
