This isn't that complicated folks. If you are from the USA and go somewhere else do you say you are from the Americas or are North American? No, typically one would say I am American (which is find of funny because their are other Americans, but people around the World typically know what you mean) or from the USA. Similarly, I don't think Canadians or Mexicans traveling to other continents say I'm American, or even North American. So if you go to another part of the world, you probably identify yourself with the most specific place you think the other person will understand (or that you can check off in a box on a form). You might even say your Texan or Hawaiian (states with major identities).
The rockets more then tried. morey m,et him and he's agent and attended all he's games according to iranian media. apprantly because memphis is a rebuilding team and are willing to play him big minutes was the deciding factor. the pistons, raptors and the rockets were after him.
The term "officially employed by the United States Census Bureau, Office of Management and Budget and other U.S. government for the classification of American citizens or resident aliens "having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_American According to the definition by the government, you pick white.
Some cultural lesson. Maybe you should get your culture's straight before you start spouting off. So, if you think that most Iranians are 'Arabic' and live in a 'Mediterranean culture', then you're just plain ignorant. Despite the way the country and region are portrayed, Iran is it's own country with it's own very proud culture. Walk up to any Iranian anywhere and call them Arabic and see how they respond. Comparing Arabic/Mediterranean with Iranian are comparing apples to oranges. Despite the ignorance, I hope Haddadi shows that whether you consider him Asian or not, his game speaks for itself and he's able to hold his own. Maybe people will get a better understanding of the people and the culture from which he comes from. That will be a lesson to learn.
C'mon guys, why has this turned into a race thread? Who cares about who should or should not be considered Asian. Is that really a big deal? Seriously? If you can ball, you can ball. Regardless of the color of your skin.
Speak for yourself. I am Chinese, from all I know, Iran and other middle east countries are all part of Asia. Iranians are certainly Asians. Chinese, Koreans, Japanese are eastern Asians.
This is a damn silly post, Iran is in Asia and if your country is in Asia then you're Asian. It's the same thing as if you're from Sweden, then you're European even if Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Finland is in what people call Scandinavia. You don't have to have a certain look or certain culture to be from a continent, to be from Asia you're country must be in Asia, continents are not about looking in a certain way or a certain culture, it's only about where the freaking country is on the map. And honestly, I couldn't care less if the people of China don't consider iranians as asians, more than half of the chinese live on the countryside and are simple farmers without any really knowledge about the world at all so that doesn't bother me at all. And honestly, are you for real? In cultural terms? Iran and the most of the other countries in the middle east has nothing in common other than religion and if religion would be the case you could you would speak about a whole lot more countries than the middle east when talking about muslims and as far as I know religion has nothing to do with location so bottom line, Iran is in Asia, people who live in countries in Asia are ASIAN.
You and RiceDaddy are correct about that. People all over the globe identify themselves like that, and are not wrong in doing it. I see it as two different but correct issues. Its simply either using the everyday commonly used terms or the "scientific" never used term. Calling an Iranian "Asian" (though technically correct), whether its right or wrong or offensive its just kinda cheesy A dog can call itself a hound or a pooch, or more technically beagle, poodle, pit bull, etc. And we'd want to call it that too. Calling it "Canis lupus" is just trying way too hard.
