I have not read most of this thread, but I would gladly trade up to number 5 or 6 and nab Johnny Flynn with it. We would have probably the shortest back court (once we slid Brooks to starting 2-guard) in the league, but it would be a good one.

I think Flynn will be a pretty good player in this league. I could see him averaging something like 14 points and 9 to 10 assists a game in his prime.

If we get the second pick, get Rubio.

Warrick is their best 4.Their frontcourt situation is not ideal, but they need a big SG,a better 1 can also help.

Based on size, yes he would ideally be a 3, but he's not, he is very much a 4, and always will be I would think.

I know I am getting at u late, but I think rubio has slow feet which is never good. I think he can be a decent pg, but I wouldn't replace brooks with him. He does seem to have a good feel, but I think he's going to have a very, very hard time defending his position. I think steve blake has quicker feet than rubio and that's not saying a lot.

If i was a griz i would be majorly mad about trading that 2nd round pik
they cant get thabeet shift gasol to the 4 as PF and problem solved ..
i dont want that pik it wil be a waste we dont want thabeet or rubio
anywhere in the top 10 is fine any SG Harden , demar derozen , tyreke evans even gerald henderson ..

i say pik evans because hes thae type of player that can create his own shot with brooks that what we need .. or pik the one with best defense ..

Memphis will want something nice in return. Cap relief won't be enough. Future picks that have a high probability of being top 5 and a nice young prospect would be the minimum opening bid. I say this, because they took a lot of grief for their previous fire sale, and they are going to be extra sensitive to getting fair market value in return. Because of this, I don't see how the Rockets can acquire that pick without either coughing up Brooks or drawing in a third team to make the pieces work.

I think he did a pretty good job on Paul in the Olympic games. They usually cite Rubio's defense as one of his strengths. Although I agree with you that he looks like he slow feet in the videos.

I gave the impression that I didn't like Harden in a previous post. I don't think he will become as good as Brandon Roy,however I'm in favor of moving down from number 2 to get him in the unlikely event of us obtaining it,but it still won't be enough to just getting him for McGrady.

Maybe a trade with Sacramento or Washington? Get that #4 or #5 pick (Tmac + Brooks + crap for #4/Kenny Thomas' expiring contract + Andres Nocioni?)

Sacramento gets to shed Nocioni's salary, gets the point guard they covet.

Then, trade with Memphis, with the #4 and the #2 picks being the centerpieces? Maybe get the Grizz some cap relief or a future pick or whatever?

I think now is not the time to trade tmac, he has every incentive to play at his peak (contract year, Rockets advancing to 2nd round without him) and this is the best time for the Rockets to go for a championship with most of the core players at their prime(Yao/Scola/Battier/Artest if re-signed).

Trading him for young players would set us back for the season.

After the year, his contract comes off the books - allowing the Rockets to pursue free agents that would fit and help the team immediately.

the reason i dont like the olympic talk is because it was only a game or two....you got a teenage kid trying to prove he belongs on the underdog team and an NBA all-star who's already reached superstar status on the favored team. Rubio needed to go at them with the best he has and leave everything on the court. While i think CP and the rest had their moments of pride and went back at him, i dont think they needed or tried to keep it up like rubio....maybe in the championship game, but i'd expect very player on the court to play that way, afterall they are all professionals, but to do it over a season is a different thing.

ROFLMAO....trading him will set us back? How?

The team advanced to game 7 of the 2nd round without him....how does him leaving set that team back?

If anything what we get back for him moves the team forward.

I'm just going to post what Jonathan Feigen said about this matter in his blog.

{So the Rockets talked to the Memphis Grizzlies about the second pick.

    Big news, huh?

Not exactly. Actually, not even close.

Of course they spoke to the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies have the two qualifications the Rockets are looking for in a trade partner.

    They have a first-round pick.

    They are in the NBA.

That's what these guys do. They talk and talk and talk to one another, and few talk as often as Rockets general manager Daryl Morey and Memphis' Chris Wallace.

There is no reason to think they are any closer to a deal with Memphis than with anyone else, and that was not the report; only that the Rockets have inquired.

Also, the sun rose in the East.

Of course Morey inquired. Imagine if he didn't and the Grizzlies traded the pick. When the owner asks if his GM could have made the same sort of deal, it's best not to have to say, "I don't know; I never checked."

One would think the Grizzlies could do better around the league for the second pick than anyone the Rockets are likely to offer. The Grizzlies also have the 27th pick and if someone the Rockets like more than most is around at that point, that would seem a more likely move.

The Timberwolves seem a more likely trade partner, anyway. Minnesota has five picks, including three in the first round. It's too soon to know what new GM David Kahn has in mind, but five rookies would be way too many to add to such a young team.

It is also too soon to know what the Rockets want most. They are high on players, relative to where they will go in the draft, who will be taken throughout the first round. But for, all the mock drafts that are out there, they don't believe the draft order is anywhere near set or clear enough to know what sort of pick they will have to get to get one of the players they might target.

Trading up is usually tougher than it sounds. The Rockets tried the past three seasons and for all the moves they have made, they did not get in position to take the guys they were chasing. It is sort of like those expiring contracts. Everyone talks about how coveted they are, but the vast majority expire with the team that said how much everyone wants those oh-so-valuable contracts.

    It is clear, however, that the Rockets are chasing a draft pick. They have been exceedingly open and optimistic about that, both with the public and in interviews with players. They don't get to work out the top prospects. Those guys don't do private workouts with the teams that don't have a pick. But they did attend the Timberwolves' workouts, getting an up-close look at players that would not mind going as high in the draft as the Timberwolves would pick.}
