Oh, dont get me wrong...I'm not on the thabeet wagon here at all. I just don't see whats so special about Rubio. He hasn't played in college or the NBA yet. His olympic performance was anything but par and how many times have we seen international stars come and be busts? countless his stats in his league are not even that great. You say he is special, but to me that translates to "he has potential." Potential means nothing if you dont get an opportunity and I don't think he will here. Brooks and Lowry have taken the reigns in my opinion. I saw trade down and get James Harden
International stars and their hit rates are about the same as college stars and their hit rates. Rubio though has a lot of intangibles and his bball IQ is off the charts.....and he has had success against international teams, and gets raves from CP3, Kidd, Kobe, etc..etc.etc.... I think he is going to be very good. DD
This is something I could see happening: Rockets send point guard Aaron Brooks to Sacramento in exchange of the #4 overal pick. I'm actually pretty sure Morey has even been discussing this or this has been proposed to him. SacTown has always been high on Brooks. And now they need their Point Guard of the future.
Not so sure, Sacramento almost drafted Brooks at #8 when he was un-proven. Now they now his potential and what he can and will become in the future.
this shows how crappy this draft class is, or how crazy that Memphis GM is......maybe we could steal Marc Gasol and Rudy Gay from them...
Getting the #4 pick goes back to the whole Thabeet thing though. Say it's Brooks + some change and/or Landry. It's possible Griffin, Rubio, and Harden go 123 (OKC likes Westbrook at the point) Now the Rockets are on the clock. What do we do, draft Thabeet? Now we have a hole at point. Draft another young point, who's not even cosidered the best in this class (Rubio) Rockets if it's true, are targetting the #2 to either get Rubio or Harden. Rubio because let's be real, AB isn't really a pass first PG, and Morey might see Roy in Harden.
Yeah but most mock drafts project Rubio at #4 because he doesn't want to go to Minny and OKC (plus okc has westbrook at point) and could force a trade, or worse, stay in spain.
i'd put thabeet closer to hibbert and diop. would make a fine backup for yao, but not if we have to pay the cost of acquiring the #2 pick. i agree, drafting international is always difficult to judge. so is drafting 18 year olds. rubio is high risk. what about james harden?
Harden seems to have that same unorthadox way of shooting that Artest loves so very much. I watched him a couple times in the NCAA tourney and I'm not that convinced that he's NBA stud material at all.
Anyone know if Rubio played soccer before basketball or plays soccer? Because he looks like a soccer player when he moves on the court.
A European kid playing soccer? I'd probably guess so. Thats like asking if an American kid plays video games.
I say trade the pick to a team like the Knicks who probably want Rubi boy for their 8th pick, a good back-up center (maybe in a 3 way trade cause they don't have one), and draft DeMar DeRozan. DeMar will be a great player in this league, MOCK MY WORDS. He has the ALL the skills to be am elite SG in the league for years. 1. He's athleticism is top notch and is probably the best in the draft. 2. He can shoot the mid-range jumpshot very well. 3. He can handle the ball and take it to the basket like Vince Carter in his younger days. 4. He has the speed, quickness, and first step to create his own shot and to be a lock-down defender & defend multiple positions. 5. He's commited to playing defense, has good work ethic, has sollid frame and from what I seen, he seems like a good & well spoken guy that would fit easy in our locker room. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/q5urk0TN15I&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/q5urk0TN15I&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http:// www.youtube.com/v/w0lYTm2tF9U&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/w0lYTm2tF9U&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> This draft class is weak and if there are any "diamonds in the rough" this guy is one. If we somehow get the 2nd we should definitely consider this. With Tmac done we need a guy that will fill that void. DeMar Derozan could possible do that! http://www.nbadraft.net/players/demar-derozan
Actually I know a lot of Spaniards who are irritated by the fact that everyone believes they all love soccer
^DeMar is great but I feel like he is kind of lazy and is quickly satisfied.. I don't see a workaholic in him and to dominate the NBA you need that work ethic.
i think thabeet is going to eventually be decent offensively, not sur eif you saw the link i posted on the previous page, has a video of him shooting jumpers and his form doesn't look bad a tall, fairly smooth actually. He's being coached this summer by an assistant who conducted workouts for Pau as well and he says he thinks there's no doubt thabeet will develop a jumper and be able to pick and pop. He also said a lot of the mechanical and stiff moves he use to make are loosening up and he's much smoother...i guess he just needed to be worked out personally.....i dont see him being that limited offensively like Okafor, diop, and i even think eventually he'll be better offensively than deke was, around the 15ppg range.
Damn hate that I can't edit I really need to contribute to this site! Anyways here are the good and bad about him that struck me:
