That he did, but playing model citizen in a contract year won't be enough to convince some teams. Plus, if your team already has volatile players, you'd have second thoughts about potentially adding another one.

I think Memphis can get a lot more for Gay. They won't add him on as filler.

i do not think the rockets should do this move...first of all...you guys fail to remember that we took lakers to game 7....without our whole team...that means there's HAS to be somethin special about this core group and their chemistry...and believe it or not...battier, brooks, and landry are part of that group..why would u want to break up that group for an unproven guy like rubio.....with yao ming..we need to win NOW! AND rubio would be too much time to develop...we need someone like wilcox..

Maybe Les will give the Grizz owner a piece of the pie(business with China) if they can get us the 2nd round pick. :)

Because Brooks is more of a 2 guard in a PG's body.

I couldn't think of a better fit next to Mayo (or at least the Mayo the Grizzlies front office want him to be) than Aaron Brooks. Still, I don't see this happening.

Adelman likes his team diverse! Look at the Old Sac team... Turkoglu, Peja, Divac... haha. Now we can have Scola, Yao, and Rubio?!

Isn't Rubi boy one of the players on the Spanish Basketball team that though this would be funny...

    <img src=http://platypusmusings.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/spain-basketball-cp-584-532.jpg>

I'm sure Yao will be fond of him.

So many people on hear want Ricky but I think he's a douche that will probably be nothing more than a Jose Calderon at best. Besides, if we were to get him, he would be sitting on the bench if Brooks is still on the team.

If Morey somehow pulls a rabbit out his ass and get us the 2nd overall pick, then the only guy we should pick is Hasheem Thabeet. This guy is closest player I've seen to Dikembe Mutombo coming out the draft and we all know how much we need a legit backup center with Yao's glass feet. If not him then we trade the pick to antoher team & get someone that can help the team now, because this draft class is WEAK!!

If Calderon can win DPOY in the Spanish league, I'll be damned.

Thabeet won't be half the player Deke ever was. This is a weak class; Griffin, Rubio, then a bunch of questionable point guards basically.

    nbadraft.net's analysis = trash.

    go to draftexpress homie...

not that nbadraft.net could be wrong, cuz they might be telling the truth, but express is awesome.

I would be very surprised if Tracy is involved. Some of us are overrating the value of his contract for sure, but I think we can do a hell of alot better than a rookie, and Darko...I for one never want to see Darko in a Rocket jersey.

If we are truly in "win now" mode, I would much rather have Baron and Camby, or Vince Carter, Caron Butler, Amare...etc. There are better options out there.

That said, I think the deal involves Landry and/or Aaron Brooks in some capacity. James Harden is good, but I do not think the Rockets would covet the second pick and not use it on Rubio or Thabeet as they are positions of GREAT need...But if Tracy is as gone as some seem to believe, maybe James Harden is guy that enables us to trade Tracy for a PG/Bench C.

Aaron Brooks+Carl Landry for James Harden+"whatever".
Tracy Mcgrady for the rumored Baron Davis+Marcus Camby.

    Baron Davis
    James Harden
    Shane Battier
    Luis Scola
    Yao Ming
    --------------------------------
    Ron Artest
    Marcus Camby
    --------------------------------
    Kyle Lowry
    Von Wafer
    Chuck Hayes

Sorry I have not read every post in this thread but has the ESPN Insider rumor being discussed here already?

Rumors: Rockets may grab pick No.2 now

The title at EPSN NBA front page was surely intriguing, I wonder the substance inside.

While I think the Rockets are still a couple of major moves away from winning a championship, this rumor is starting to get on my nerves. It's not that I have issues with trading Brooks, it's that I have issues trading him for an unknown commodity.

I've been an insider for over a year now, but for some reason I was deactivated recently. I can't even figure out how to activate again. I go to the member's benefits page, go to subscribe, and it takes me to the insider home page. ridiculous.

"everal teams have shown interest in trading for the Grizzlies No. 2 overall pick, according to the Commercial Appeal.

The most recent suitors are the Celtics, Rockets and Knicks, but other teams are said to be interested.

The Clippers have the top pick and are expected to take Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin. The second overall pick has long been expected to be Ricky Rubio, the point guard from Spain. Rubio has said he doesn't want to play for the Grizzlies, however, he is reportedly visiting Memphis as soon as next week for a workout.

The fact that the Celtics and Rockets are interested is intriguing because both teams have solid young point guards -- Rajon Rondo and Aaron Brooks, respectively. That might mean they are interested in another player -- perhaps Connecticut big man Hasheem Thabeet or Arizona State swingman James Harden. But since neither team owns a first round pick, they would likely have to give up veteran to swing a trade. The Knicks, however, have long been rumored to be interested in Rubio, and they own the No. 8 pick.

In his mock draft, ESPN's Chad Ford projected the Grizzlies to pass on Rubio and draft Thabeet, but he said the best scenario would be for the Grizzlies to trade this pick to a team that really wants Rubio."

It really does make more sense for it to be Thabeet.

    Sure it does.

He calls himself Hasheem 'The Dream'.
    He wears #34.
    He's from Houston.

Makes a ton a sense to me ;)

But yeah...idk why we would get him. Doesn't make sense to draft a back-up Center that high. Even if he proves to be good, he's not starting over Yao of course and not over Scola either.

I think some people here don't know or forgotten that Yao's contract ends after next season. If we got the 2nd pick Hasheem would be the clear cut choice cause not only will he be the back our backup center, he would also be insurance for the team if Yao decides to go else where after next season. I just hope that if we did get the 2nd pick overall, it doesn't completely screw up our chances of getting a guy like Amare or Monta Ellis. I'd surely rather have Amare over anyone coming out the draft this year. :D

I'd take James Harden or Rubio. Then I would keep Harden or trade Rubio to the Knicks or Kings for something like Thompson or Hawes.

Unforunately(?), I think the Rockets like Hasheem Thabeet. He's from Texas and is a Hakeem Olajuwon fan. Furthermore, i've read in articles and on the internet that they always speak very nicely of him.
