    No kidding.

Kwame is a huge liability on offense. Just getting rid of him would have been great.

To get an All-star in return for him is Yuuuuuuuuummmmmmy!

Nuts, isn't it? I bet Mark Cuban sues the league for not allowing him to pillage the downtrodden NBA franchise first.

It really shows how the league has changed though, how deals are made almost entirely based on contracts now. If your roster is made up of guys with deals 3 years out and beyond, and they're underperforming, you're in a bind. Rookie contracts now have super high values for their low cost and flexibility in deals.

Unfortunately it sounds like Les Alexander wants to just get under luxury tax... so I'm not as hopeful as I'd like to be that we could be a player here.

If the Lakers can get Pau Gasol for Kwame no reason Rockets can't get Jason Kidd for Rafer.

Talent-wise, they go from also-ran to top contender. Think about it: The Lakers gave up Kwame to get Pau.

Tell you what: The Grizz BETTER sign a top-notch free-agent this offseason. I think they will have more cap space than any team in the NBA.

i mean really, who is going to stop this team ?

look at that starting 5 ? jesus christ. and they STILL have that great bench. they only gave up crittenton who doesnt even get in games most nights.

they are going MURDER everyone on the glass. boston is the only team i can see beating them right now. this SUCKS

not only that, but they are going to be contending for the next 4-5 years. FUKK!!!

Yeah, we made those type moves already in the summer when we took on extra salary in Jackie Butler and Justin Reed when we traded to get Mike James and Luis Scola.

Kwame is an expiring contract I believe and they threw in 2 first rounders.

    Rafer has three years left.

Jerry West is no longer the Grizzlies GM. It's Chris Wallace. And Stromile has just been traded to the Nets.

Looks like the old days: Celtics in the East and Lakers in the West.

What do the Grizzlies see in crappy big men? First Darko, now Kwame. Taking on Kwame alone is worth a late first rounder. I can't believe the Lakers might be a serious playoff threat.

Great talent-wise, so are Denver, New York, Chicago,

I know neither of the above have Kobe Bryant, but Gasol is not a great defender. Both Bynum and Gasol together is formidable match-up, but still could not slow down the likes of Duncan, Boozer, or Yao.

dont forget about Odom. Now there's less pressure on Odom to be a low post thread, he can just clean up and become Cedric Ceballos.

Yeah, don't forget they have Fisher too, who'll have even more open shots that he can knock down.

    Damn the Lakers!

This gives me hope to get Jason Kidd. If they can get Gasol for that....

    Novak+James+Kirk Snyder+Rafer Alston+Bonzi Wells+Luther Head plus a first rounder.....for kidd

get it done we keep aaron landry and scola. Keep battier and sign a bunch of scrubs. Kidd is a pg that makes others better. its possible after today's robbery.

i see the lakers dominating everyone.

    western conference:
    1. Lakers
    2. Phoenix
    3. Dallas
    4. Hornets (they run into their annual injuries at some point)
    5. Utah
    6. Spurs
    7. Rockets
    8. Golden State

Sorry Nuggets and Portland. Rockets will pull through and golden state can beat anyone. Both nuggets and portland are almost as inconsistent as the rockets, but hey gotta go for home team.

You have to remember that the Lakers don't just have Gasol. They have Bynum and Odom and ... I can't remember ... 24? They are much more talented than Denver, NY or Chicago. This trade (or steal) could be the tipping point for them.

i think you're wrong.... they will OWN the glass with those two down low, AND 6'10 lamar odom at the 3. this team will have defense, offense, rebounding, 3pt shooting, clutch players and great coaching..... its not lookin good for everyone else in the west right now.

realize that they added an ALL-STAR caliber player to a team that was already #1 in the WEST before bynum's injury. that is ****ing ridiculous !!! :(

I do not understand why Grizzlies do this trade? The two first round pick will not have big values if Lakers became a contender. Why not trade with the Bulls ?
