No. Parsons is the deal breaker here. If this team were to operate optimally, then we'd have Melo at the stretch 4 and not as the 3. Which means we need Parsons at SF. But before that the deal sounds fine. Although IMO we'd likely have to give up 2 picks here, not one. We do own the Knicks 2nd rounders though. Funny enough those are worth something now.

Melo is going to ask for the max contract after the season, which is a very scary one at 5yrs/$130mil. I'm normally one for saying that superstars are underpaid regardless so whatever, but that's a number that's scary for a star turning 30. I'd still want the Rockets to pay him, but it would have to result in a sure-fire bonafide contending team. And we'll need Parsons for that.

IFF (if and only if) we had a solid coach who could convince Melo to buy into his schemes and play 3rd wheel (like he does playing for team USA) then he'd be a great addition.

I don't see that happening, nor do I think we can offer the best trade package. Like dobro said, Chicago could swing for him.

Asik + Lin for Melo??? About 28 other teams will offer better than that for Melo.

On paper the core of Noah/Gibson/Melo/Butler/Rose sure looks like a good team to me, assuming those are the pieces they can end up with and build around after a deal like this would in theory occur.

Forget their record right now. The Bulls franchise, their coach, and these supporting players deserve a little recognition for what they've been able to accomplish the past few years.of course chemistry and Roses health are big factors but talent wise that's a good core to build around next year especially in a low class eastern conference.

Not sure why Melo wouldn't welcome the thought of being on this team in a city like Chicago rather than playing alongside Kobe's contract, or staying with the Knicks . It would be a no brainer to me.

Melo can opt out at the end of the season. That automatically make 20~25 teams not willing to trade for him under any circumstances.

Except he isn't playing in Olympics against Nigeria, but in NBA against better teams.

    Nice try.

Right. Because every game is against Nigeria. They definitely didn't have to beat Spain or Argentina or anything, both teams that could easily beat NBA squads.

    Stephen A.:

They can fix this mess. Not sure they can fix this season. Tyson coming back would help. Turning this around, you're talking about the success they had last year, which I don't think will happen. The Knicks are in chaos. Mike Woodson, it's not his fault.

I believe the Knicks should trade Carmelo Anthony before the trading deadline. The only reason I say that is because Carmelo was on the record before the season saying he is looking towards FA. You don't do that unless you don't want to be there. The Knicks can't afford to lose him for nothing. They should trade him. We both know he wants to play with Chris Paul. Not sure what LAC is willing to give up but I'd entertain a Griffin for 'Melo swap.

You cannot lose Carmelo for nothing. It cannot happen. Move him before February trading deadline.

We saw LeBron do it. We saw Howard do it. You cannot let Carmelo go for nothing. If you're the Knicks, you cannot trust that someone wants to stay with you. You've been basketball purgatory the last decade. Woodson is getting railroaded and you don't know where this franchise is going. You better get something. You can't bank on Carmelo staying with you. Stoudemire and Bargnani and Chandler on your books. You can't get so much better. You can't lose 'Melo for nothing. I said yesterday, I believe he is gone. I'm hearing he is out and doesn't want to be there any longer and barring something miraculous happening, I can't see him changing his mind. Clippers have a lot of nice parts, see what you can pull off.

How about having a coach that would have our current superstar Harden buy into our own defensive schemes and sharing the ball more? Forget Melo. Let's work with what we have first before we take on another problemmatic guy. Doubt McHale is the one to inspire this.

Melo expiring, dont need to resign him but he would be dangerous in this offense considering he wont have the burden of scoring every point

I think that would actually work out in our favor. Lin + Asik + draft pick + fillers for Melo. I think Knicks would take that in a heartbeat and we would wind up a top 3 scorer. Having a guy like that with a post game would have gotten us past the Thunder last year.

Might be a good thing if he doesnt resign. We'd get the cap space for the 2014 offseason where there are a whole mess of stars available

    Brooks
    Harden
    Parsons
    Melo
    Howard

That is a scary lineup on the offensive side for sure. Defensively has a lot to be desired though.

harden and melo will be arguing due ot the ballhog tendencies. Rockets need a head coach that can handle that situation. Mchale to soft spoken

Do you really think they gave their best effort against them? Judging an NBA player by his olympic performance, it doesn't translate into NBA

I would fully endorse a Melo rental if we somehow were able to keep Parsons (hard to imagine).

Lin/Asik/Jones/picks for Melo. Even if Melo left, our books would be cleared for cap space in a loaded free agency class depending on what contracts we took back.

Doubt it happens, but fun to think about.
