Could be an interesting rental. Hed give us a post game option which is a dimension this team doesn't have. Not a bad option at the 4
I disagree with your assessment. -Ain't no way in hell Drummond or Griffin will be offered in a trade. Perhaps Monroe, but who knows. -Chicago has cap space for Melo this off season, so I see no reason why they would blow a bunch of assets to get a half season head start of him playing there. -Boston might be interested but they too could clear the money to sign him in the off season. Why would Melo stay in Boston without Rondo? They would be just as bad.
And since he's almost certainly heading to the Kobers, he'd be nothing more than an insanely expensive rental.
If we are trading asik/lin/dmo for Melo that trade can happen anytime. Only reason we would wait until Dec. 15th is if Brewer or Casspi are in the deal. By the way I suggested several months ago that this package was good enough to get a superstar like Melo if the Knicks figured out he was flying the coop and was practically laughed off the board. But once again just keeping it real. IF the Knicks come to the logical conclusion that Melo is headed to the Lakers (he is) then they are not going to find anybody willing to rent Melo for more than what Morey will give them.....except possibly Uriji (if you consider Rudy Gay and others better value than Asik/Lin/DMo/picks) It's safe to say that right now that the Lakers would move Pau for Melo. But the problem with getting it done is if Morey is dangling Asik/Lin/DMo/picks for Melo that trumps Pau. I've been saying it before big mouth Smith said it, if the Knicks are smart they will unload Melo too the highest bidder.
Stephen A. Smith says that Melo is leaving NY Today's podcast for SAS and Ruocco, starting at the 14:00 mark. http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=10079496 SAS: Here is what it comes down to, Ryan. More than anything else I've heard. Do you know what I've heard over the past 24 hours? RR : What? SAS: Carmelo Anthony is gone. RR : Period. SAS : Ain't no way in hell he's staying here. RR : Really? SAS : Ain't no way in hell he's staying here. RR : He's, he's gone? He's checked out? SAS : I'm hearing, this is it. He's out. Unless the money disappears elsewhere, because he definitely wants to get paid, he's not trying to stay here for this. He's not trying to stay here for this. He continues to talk about CAA and it's influence on decision making, the people lining up for Woodson's job, and that he believes that the Knicks need to trade Melo by the deadline, or they'll end up getting nothing. At 19:30... SAS : ... I believe the New York Knicks should move him by the trading deadline.... he's too big time of a scorer for you to lose him for nothing or to settle for some garbage that somebody is willing to give you because you're trying to work out a sign and trade... to me, you move him by the trading deadline. Could be a very interesting trade deadline...
thats great, glad melo wants to leave.....but whens melo gonna realize he's never gonna be the centerpiece of a winning team??? It's not rocket science, padding stats doesn't make you a winning player
I honestly would give them Asik, Parsons, and Lin for Melo and there 1st Rd pick, I'm probably alone with this one, and I'm fine with that..
If we did this, would we also want to grab Bargs as a backup center? He could even put some time in at the 4 with his range. Asik, Lin + a lot, since thats like $30k salary coming in and only half that going out for Melo, Bargnani.
How can Daryl Morey not pull the trigger on that? Bev Harden Parsons Melo Howard Casspi Brooks Garcia Smith T Jones =Championship
